Newcastle Canoe Pool reviews
7 As legend has it, there was once a cement map of the world in the pond, and children could row a canoe around the "world".
In a big storm, it was filled with sand, and in the process of clearing out the sand, the map got severely damaged.
Now it's just a sandy-bottom pool. Perfect for even the tiniest babies.
Not much shade. A few shady tables if you don't go at a busy time.
Full toilets and change rooms at the ocean baths next door, which are locked overnight.
There is an outdoor shower for use at any time.
We actually saw dolphins not too far from it. The kids had a blast. Perfect beach for the little ones and a bit of a deeper end on the edge towards the end for the bigger kids.
Beautiful beach with big rock pool. Big wave currently. Lot of car park space.
Cute lil dipping pool for the young ones.
Make sure to hold your kid's hand around the slippery green moss (before they enter the water)
Newcastle historic canoe pool is a perennial favourite with parents with young children splashing about in the relative safety of the tidal pool. However, the pool also is home to seagulls, and other sea birds especially at night and at low tide. Large waves often flood the pool causing the otherwise tranquil pool to become dangerous fun for boys riding bodyboards. The canoe pool had varying depths from shallows to waist high levels. A current forms that flows fast to a old pipe opening allowing seawater to rush out onto the Newcastle beach rocks. Parental supervision is recommended as the lifeguards are situated away from the pool.
Cold & wet with lots of ocean spray.
Great place to photograph on a bad day or a good day.
Dirtiest pool I have ever seen. I would never recommend to any parents.
