New Shanghai

Nice and not so busy place for afternoon lunch. Our order came really fast and it was well cooked. Xiao Long Bao was delicious and pork belly was amazing. Definitely would come back again and highly recommend anyone to come here for afternoon lunch.

Love New Shanghai. Use to go to the one in Queen St Mall in Brisbane when living there. Happy to discover the same quality of food here. The pork belly, XLB, pork buns and pot-sticker dumplings all highly recommended.

Great place for Chinese food. Pork Buns were absolutely amazing, the rest of the food - Xiao long bao, dumplings - was good but nothing extraordinary. I’d go again, but there’s plenty of other places I’d prefer more over here. Hence the rating.

Excellent food in the heart of westfields! Authentic and tasty. Great for work socials. Pricey but worth it with a group.

Shanghai is THE BEST Chinese food I’ve ever had! The servers are so friendly and check up on you, if we forget to order something they are always happy to add it in. The way they set up this restaurant is like you’re actually in a Chinese alleyway. When you want to order you tick off boxes on a piece of paper with all of the menu items listed. Not only is this smart but it is also a great way to make sure you ordered everything you want to eat. Five stars all round!

The rating is a bit harsh as food was decent, service was good. The non-vegetarian amongst us really enjoyed her meal. However, as a vegetarian with so many great Chinese food choices nearby, there are better options elsewhere.

Great meal in a quiet restaurant with good service. The tofu, greens and shiitake mushroom dish was delicious, as are the clay pots.

Another great place for delicious dumplings. The chilli wonton was my favourite it had a tasty hint of peanut butter. The Xiao long Bao had so much soup inside definitely recommend that too. Great price and good portion

Authentic Chinese yumcha dishes. Generous serving and great for family get together on weekends. Try their General Tso chicken. One of a few restaurants that prepare this dish in a very savoury style.

Terrible, stale, and tasteless food, was super expensive, rude, inattentive wait staff, and huge waste of money. No wonder the restaurant is always dead do yourself a favor and skip this one!

Could be a bit more cleaner.

We had lunch with very authentic dumplings. The foods were juicy and well seasoning. The staff was friendly. The restaurant is under shopping mall Westfield so It is close to opera house and darling habour.

Highly recommend the xiao long bao & the pan fried pork buns! I also had the drunken chicken with noodles; I personally found the noodles to be slightly salty and quite plain as well. Staff were adequate, not the friendliest but not the worst either.

Their website says they close at 8 pm but we were turned away at 7.20 pm with the waitress saying they are closed. I think this branch will close soon as you can't make any bookings here on their website.

Response to their reply: No staff did not explain at all that kitchen closes or last order was at 7.30 pm. If that is the case you should put that on your website. Also we were turned away at 7.20 pm so you did not allow us to make our order before 7.30 pm that day.

I came hoping to enjoy some excellent Chinese dumplings. But I have allergies to pork, never have I been to a restaurant that wasn't able to accommodate and remove the pork and just leave the meat that I could have. They weren't willing to budge and didn't have anything on their menu that I could partake in, at least that's what the server told me. I left and went to Chat Thai and receive better service.

2.5 stars. Food seems overpriced for what it is but they are paying city rental so is understandable from that point-of-view. The guy who greets you and also takes payment at the register (on Sunday) seems a bit like he's in his own world (doesn't really acknowledge you as a customer or say thank you). It can be perceived as aloofness and rudeness. The other waiters/resses are cordial and obliging.

I really don't like the darkness of the place and it's not really a nice space. Doesn't have a nice setting or ambience.

All in all, won't be back.

Awesome food, fast and efficient staff. Good portions, if you can't finish, ask for a takeaway box

Food was not bad or good - it was edible and could not complain about it. It wasn’t life changing or terrible. Service was ok. Just an average experience. Edamame was cold, didn’t mind that but they are usually warm.

Noodles did not really have a taste, just a plain soy taste.

Been here a few years ago and food was great. Disappointed this time. Everything was a little too salty and not sweet enough like authentic shanghainese food. Water was not served until asked halfway through the meal. Personally I think Lilong is better for shanghainese food. But atmosphere good and the place is clean.

The zhajiangmian was a bit lacking in flavour, and for the price paid it wasn’t quite justified. That being said, the restaurant is nicely done up and very clean. The staff were quite friendly, although, trying to call for their assistance was quite difficult and the ordering process was quite hit and miss.

The overall experience was pleasant, though a bit disappointing as this used to be one of my favourite Chinese restaurants to come to. I think the Ashfield restaurant (which, I think, is the original) is by far and away the better option between the two.
