Mountain Equipment reviews
21 Great service and lots of experience.
Stock range not extensive but can get anything in from the city store.might be best to check before visiting the store. Good people!
I went there today and was greeted by king staff which helped me fit my climbing shoes and gave great advice on how to get the most life out of my shoes. 10/10 experience.will be coming back
Brilliant service, product knowledge and understand layering performance needs in zero degree situations, heavy rain and/or alpine backcountry conditions. I went looking for a technical goretex jacket and was shown the performance features on 4 of them with goretex or similar performance materials. By comparison I can say that unless you really know what you are looking for in a technical jacket, Macpac and Kathmandu (M&K) could sell you a unsuitable fashion jacket instead of a technical jacket. Fashion jackets have the look but miss the right features due to cost cutting applied by the accountants. For example many M&K jacket models have zips that are not waterproof but rather standard zips hidden under leaky velcro flaps (little point having a technical jacket with leaky zips in the middle of a wet day or night). Some customer feedback on M&K websites say jacket were bought for bushwalking in rainy weather, but found not to be waterproofed, and leaked within hours. If a jacket cannot keep you dry in a downpour, then in wet sleeting weather like in the alpine back country could risk killing you! Love Mountain Equipment's product performance philosophy and clear point of difference.
Went there last night for a pair of bouldering shoes - the employee that helped me was fantastic and very clearly knew her stuff. She patiently sat by while i tried on about five pairs of shoes and had a nice chat while she did so. Definitely recommend this shop for anyone looking for great service. The climbing wall for testing your shoes out was also a nice touch
Was very happy with the service at Mountain Equipment. Gaston served me and he was very knowledgeable.would highly recommend!
Top quality customer service. We went in to get new indoor bouldering shoes and the person that assisted me was extremely knowledgeable. I fit into shoes easily and found a good pair quickly. We were able to test the shoes out on a small demo wall they had in-store which is so important for choosing shoes. He was super patient with my partner who needed to try very many shoes to find one that was comfortable. He demonstrated excellent knowledge by finding a shoe that was comfortable for her.
Got great advice on some climbing shoes, staff was super helpful and took their time to explain to me what was the difference between the shoes. Would recommend just for the service.
Customer service second to none! We are in Canberra and after I ordered the wrong size hats they not only tracked down the correct size but express posted them at short notice so we had for the weekend. 5+/5
The staff are real outdoors people who know their stuff. Top notch gear, for when your life depends on it.
They have wide variety of items but it gets pricey when it comes to the branded name. Service just ok, but not as helpful as Paddy Pallin.
Lovely atmosphere. Staff are friendly and are quite expert on their outdoor knowledge.they gave lots of tips. I miss Frankie she was really nice. Goods are a bit pricey but quality you can trust each and every time. Rarely seen the shop on sale/discounts. Worth it to go and check them out next time you need to stock up on your outdoor gear.
I walked past this shop like a zillion times. I would not have found it if I had not eavesdropped on the salesgirl in a competing store who told me of all the camping equipment stores in Chatswood. It is opposite the former site of papa rich Malaysian restaurant/North shore coaching/chatswood police station. Next block down from Westfield and before u get down to chatswood Chase
If u r shopping and need cheap 65litre Lowe Alpine or osprey duffel to carry it all, they sell for between 50 to 125aud. Omg, they have so many backpack, to think of all those times I stretch all my tiny fingers to carry shopping bags.
Today I bought a nice and light interesting 40 litre osprey backpack mainly to carry a pile of full size xrays which I folded gently without creasing as pictured, to keep it out of the rain. I went home to see what I could fit in it and I put entire hoka one one shoebox in horizontally and there was tonnes of space left and zips up with minimal effort. I love it lol
The staff were super friendly and they have certain backpacks on sale compared to city store yesterday, where nothing was on sale.
They sell hiking head lamps which are useful for early evening to maximise ground coverage long walks when u are not tired.
They sell la sportiva and other gore Tex material hiking boots so I bought a pair of mid cut la sportiva today as the trail running shoes of renowned brands such as altra just didn't cut it as walking for 40km over stones, streams and roots, fatigue sets in and it only takes a few ankle rolls and bottom of midfoot pain to ruin your day ie need some ankle support and a harder base and toecap of shoe for midfoot and toe protection, which the la sportiva provides.
The grip of the La sportiva (pictured) was the best out of all the boots on offer at the store for me and the boot was light weight.
I loved how the shop had an incline slope board to walk up and down to test the grip and comfort of the boot.
Also, these are waterproof so walking across streams is going to be so much easier and better instead of overthinking about which rock to hop on.
The service was excellent and better than the city store. It is only when they don't have things in stock that I would go to the city store. Can't be bothered waiting lol
I will definitely be back as I go shopping all the time in chatswood.
Always knowledgeable staff for the required discipline. Very good gear being carried and they can order in if required.
Small shop, but seems well stocked, and the 2 staff people that I dealt with were very knowledgeable and helpful. I would say this is a more serious outdoor shop than some of the bigger chains.
Mountain Equipment is the best outdoor gear store on the Northshore. The staff know their stuff, because they use their stuff. They stock quality brands. This is no army surplus or cheap car camping/4wd store. The gear you buy here will do the job and take you to every corner of the globe.
Very good quality products available + advice of preference in honest (not to sell the expensive items to us,) honest sales woman
Friendly staff helped me find the best type and fit of rock climbing shoe! They also had a few holds for me to try them out on.
Have been here on two occasions and on both times, the staff have been incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. The staff are obviously passionate about the outdoors and take some time to have a good chat with you. Thanks guys and gals!
The salesperson who helped me named 'Frankie' was extremely helpful and willing to go that extra mile to order in a product for me. It's nice to see that there are 'proper' hiking stores still around, that carry the proper brands accompanied with the proper advice. Great Job!
Great staff that know there stuff and are willing to answer questions and hello as much as they can.
