I bought an off the plan apartment from MONO in February 2018. To start, I was told that the build would be completed that year, however I did not get my keys until August 2020.

The customer and maintenance staff at MONO are generally supportive and kind. So I'm not faulting them at all.

I do have to comment on the poor quality of the build though. For half a million dollars, this apartment is far from worth it. Firstly, the living and dining space was so poorly planned. The kitchen is huge but the living are is 3m by 4.5m, which barely fits anything. An employee from MONO even acknowledged how silly this design was. Then I had an issue with an overlapping shower door which took MONO months to resolve. The paint in the bathroom was so poorly done that it took an extra 4 layers to cover the gyprock red writing underneath. I have chips on the wooden panels under my kitchen bench which were just filled with sealant.

They also use the cheapest of cheap appliances (haier). I paid 20K extra for upgrades, only to find out that other upgraded apartments were later being sold for the base price!

The biggest issue? Sound insulation. The windows in the sliding doors are so incredibly thin that you can hear every sound outside. This includes hearing neighbours from within their apartment when they have their balcony doors open! The glass is only 6mm thick but I was ensured sound insulation would be great. Even worse? I can hear almost every sound from my upstairs neighbours. Not just footsteps - I mean light switches, appliances, cupboard doors, balcony and other doors.

Oh also they installed lights in the common area that point directly into my apartment.

When I have raised issues with MONO, I've been told that their building meets the Australian Building Standards. But that's just it - that is all MONO aimed for. Minimum standards with little thought or investment in good quality building/construction. This has resulted in poor quality and has genuinely impacted quality of life and especially sleep.

These are just some of the issues I have experienced. I had really high hopes for this company but I have been completely let down. If I could take back time, I would have not purchased this apartment.

Cannot speak highly of my experience at Mono. I’ve learnt many new skills and experiences that I will carry on my next journey. A company I would recommend to anyone both personally and professionally. Hope to stay in touch with the team in the long run. Wish the company nothing but success.

We have worked with Mono Constructions over many years and have found them to be reliable, fair and reasonable with very good quality work. They are quick to respond when an issue may arise, and I wouldn’t hesitate to work with them on future projects.

I purchased an apartment in Terrigal that had been constructed by Mono. The quality of finish in my apartment was of a high standard. Chris from Mono was very responsive and helpful when a minor matter needed attending to. I am very pleased with the quality of the product and service received from Mono. Thank you.

Mono Construction was one of my first clients 4 years ago. Whenever we do work for Mono Construction my team are always excited. Much of it is due to how well and caring their team is at all times. Great company with a great team. Highly recommended!

Re Brand New Apartment purchased from Mono Constructions

They take forever to reply. You will have to chase them up (i chased them up to 5 times one time) and get frustrated first before you can get a reply. They did not take my calls, only emails after construction or through real estate agent (real estate agent is not very helpful also) during construction.

Quality of building materials is just standard to meet regulatory requirements (so not good quality). Main door in my apartment is heavy, doors in bathrooms looks like second hand (eg.there is a small hole on the back door of the bathroom where you would put the hook [it didnt come with the hook, just a hole! ]) - they had to repaint them to look newish.

Make sure you check (advise them in writing you want to know this once they have the exact model) the exact models of all appliances that comes with your apartment to make sure you are happy with them as they use low quality appliances.

As a Site Manager with over 35 years of experience all over the Globe, I find Mono Constructions to be like no other company I have worked for. Their enthusiasm is non existent. They have limited resources and draw their contractors from a limited supply resulting inthe various sites coming to a stand still because the contractors are needed on another " more important" job. Mono Construction strives for perfection in all fields of construction but rarely succeed. From start to finish of any project, Mono Construction drives their site staff to get results but never show their appreciation for the hard work put in.
A relatively young company in comparison to others in Australia, I cannot see them going places with the way they treat their team members and sub contractors who have to fight and beg for payment on a regular basis.
In a nutshell, Mono Constructions attitude is one of "As long as we are making money, why should we worry about our staff members or sub-contractors"
