Meroogal reviews
18 Finally had the opportunity to see this beautiful home. It is right next to the showground so can be paired with a visit to Hanging Rock or Ben’s Walk.
The staff are lovely and our tour guide was Nicole, she was engaging and friendly. The tour was over an hour long but it didn’t drag at all as there is so much to see in the home. I’m an architecture buff so the small details about the construction of the home were of particular interest to me.
To make the most of a visit, I would recommend reading up on the history of the home prior as 4 generations can be a lot to digest, it also helped me to understand the tour better. Nicole did give us a run down of the family tree which was much appreciated and put everything in perspective.
A treasure well worth visiting.
What a completely unexpected but amazing property to explore! The volunteer made the experience a 10/10, with both well researched knowledge of the property but also in a fun, interactive way - an absolute star and completely made the experience what it was. Meroogal is a time capsule and must see if in the area. It will not disappoint!
Excellent informative guided tour - and no entry fee! Ring first to register for the tour.
Thankyou to the friendly volunteers.
The guides are very knowledgeable and friendly and the history of the house, those that lived in it and the things they kept and preserved are very interesting.
We had an amazing experience here. We were lead around the grounds and throughout the house by a very knowledgeable guide. We learned a lot about the history of the house and surrounding area. This is definitely worth a tour if you're in the area, or passing through town. Our tour took around 1 hour 45 mins. It can be a lot quicker depending on how many questions you ask.
Historical house. The tour went on to discuss the family and the origins of the house. It is one of a few places that the house has been kept to its authenticate of the time period. It is interesting to see how the house has not changed for at least a few generations and knowing how people lived during those times.
Nice house.good history given on the tour. Entry from road into the property needs to be leveled out.very uneven very hard to push wheel chair up that uneven hill.
Nice friendly staff.
Interesting house which has been in the one family since the 1880s, had lots of original furnishings. Our guide was very enthusiastic, knew a great deal about the house and greatly enhanced the experience.
The best of all the living museums thanks to the fantastic volunteer guides that know so much about the house and its people and anecdotes.
My visit to this lovely and loved old family home was a walk down memory lane. So much of the memorabilia was similar to items from my early childhood and heirlooms still in my family. Nicole was a wonderful guide and the tour was fascinating. Thank-you so much for this delightful experience.
Fabulous house with an amazing history. Unfortunately it was.closed the day we visited but gained invaluable information from the gardener. She was most helpful.
Fantastic old house donated as a museum with a treasure trove of 100 years of original contents, furniture, clothing, crockery, instruments etc. The original owners were significant settlers off the area. Can only visit on a Saturday, and see the interior by guided tour only
Really enjoyed looking around and learning the history, thanks also for showing me the lace display
Interesting place where 4 generations of sisters used to live, 2-4 sisters in each generation. The house was built with money from gold findings and has a lot of corners and towers etc on it. It is mainly in original shape, built in the 1860-ies. Only a hundred meters from the entrance of Nowra showground.
Guided tours only. A house full of history and memory. Lovely tour given by Ruth. If use public transportation, take 724 (cash only bus) at Bomaderry station and get off at Shoalhaven hospital then another 900m walk. Or a 3km walk from Bomaderry station to Meroogal. Definitely worth visiting, but make sure that you check opening time and the tour schedule ahead.
A living museum. A fascinating look into the history of Nowra and the family who inhabited the home.
Was a great stopover point when we were driving south. Our guide was brilliant and her enthusiasm was infectious. Loved the one hour tour of this old house.
