Personally I don't recommend Matty to be the therapist that will help couples improve and sustain their relationship problems. I had a terrible experience with her today. She is neither impartial nor understanding. She doesn't try to listen and understand the story from both parties, she let my bf talk and then ask me why did you do that? She did not attempt to get a different version of the story from me and took it as if one side of the story represents the truth. She also lack of the culture competence, rather than looking at individual's as a unique being, she discredit other culture traditions.eg, my bf told her that I told him I would not sleep with him before we are in a commited relationship. She turned around and asking me ''did you say that? Why did you say that''? I then explained to her that it was my personal choice, I know myself very well, I chose not to have pre-relationship sex to protect my mental wellbeing in case we are not the right person for each other, but I am ahppy to spend time getting to know each other and build friendships. I have also said ''I've never restricted any boys I am seeing to stop doing anything they want to do, just not with me''. She then told me'' but you are in Australia, how is it realistic not to have sex before a relationship? " Well, my experience have told me it is realistic and possible. Australia is a multicultural country, you don't choose to be with someone that doesn't align with your values.
I find Matty not helpful to my relationship conflict, her responses are not constructive, her judgement is highly subjective. I feel so disappointed that I find after attending the sessions with her, the problem actually exacerbated because my bf felt validated for his wants.
All in all, I don't think she is professional nor helpful in improving relationship problems.

Matty is compassionate and gave my partner and I balanced support, she didn’t take sides and helped us work through some challenges. I found her to be very encouraging and directed us to the real issues and strategies that worked for us.

If you are looking for a therapist who is going to analyse your feelings and understand the meaning behind your behaviour, Matty silver is definitively not the therapist for you. She has a very practical and direct approach. It might work for some couples or individuals who needs a push to " do it". It was unfortunately a very destructive session for my husband and I. I very much felt in conflict with her the whole session. Instead of trying to understand my behaviour she kept repeating again and again the same advice and questions. I have to admit that she had an accent which was difficult to understand as well. This is my personal experience with Matty Silver. If you are in search of a more practical and straightforward solution, she is the right therapist for you. But if you are used to a therapist asking you about the reasoning behind your emotions (why are you feeling like this, can you tell me more?) Matty is not the therapist for you.

Matty Silver helped me with some challenging personal issues that I had been facing for many years. Over several phone counselling sessions I have now got a whole new lease on life, I am so happy and owe it all to Matty.

I have been a cross-dresser since I was young and now I’m in my late twenties and in a serious relationship. I don’t cross dress that much anymore but I’m not sure if I could totally stop. We plan to live together soon and I just didn’t know if I should tell my girlfriend about it. After reading an article Matty wrote about it, I made an appointment and the session gave me all the ‘answers’ I wanted to know.

I have worked with Matty Silver professionally for 6 years. She is an expert on relationship, marriage and sexual health issues. Matty has been writing for Fairfax media on sexual health issues for several years and is clearly a leading authority in Australia. She is a also a leading figure in the Australian Society of Sex Educators and Researchers. For anyone with relationship or sexual issues, I can highly recommend her professionalism and expertise.
