Masala Theory reviews
76First time trying Indian food and this place impressed me immensely! Each dish was like a playful adventure in flavors. Absolutely enjoyable experience!
Fantastic vibe at this restaurant with top-notch customer service. Made our dining experience truly special. Great atmosphere and even better food!
Awful food and terrible service from the disinterested staff. Dirty tables, incredibly long wait for mediocre food. Many other better restaurants within a 5 minute walk. Save yourself the time and hassle and go somewhere else. Would vote zero stars if possible.
Loved it. Great fusion combination of indian food.it's not the usual run of the mill.the essence of the indian food is intact with great twists.
Had dinner yesterday and it was the most innovative tasty indian food ive had in a very long time. I do not agree with some of the negative reviews who are blaming this restaurant for not serving classic oily indian food, well this place is not for classic its about fusion and innovation and the use of ingredients to elevate a dish. What they have managed to do with the menu and infuse insane flavours i bet alot of Indian restaurants are not able to achieve this using traditional recipes. Will definitely will be going back
Tried veg curry bombs and paneer in makhana sauce, both of them were not good in taste and definitely not worth the price.
Came here for an experience and it was indeed with their set menu. You can’t expect us to pay for what you think is the best when it is about food. Genuinely disappointed with the SUPERVISOR.
Adding response to owner’s review.we did not book additional table to avoid set menu, check your system when the first booking was made and when we did the second booking for additional guests. You are saying we have created a vendetta against you but you yourself are selling false propaganda. Second thing, we were expecting a more customer friendly and accommodating experience from you and your team but alas that was not the case so have left the review accordingly.
Modern Indian in the heart of Surry - how could you say no. Fit out is very modern and there are plenty of tables, but best to book.
Big fan of the vegetarian banquet. Great value for money and an even better spread.
It was lovely and friendly staff for serving.awesome food taste.will recommend everyone to visit once
Absolutely fantastic food. My partner and I are vegetarians and Masala Theory had plenty of vegetarian and vegan dishes. We did the four course vegetarian set meal and every course was well thought out, balanced, and presented beautifully. While there were no bad options, we particularly loved the curry bombs, Wada Pav Sliders (a little spicy) and Thecha Paneer Tikka.
The decor was fun, the service was friendly, and the food is some of the best I’ve had. Highly recommend!
Very disappointed, the food is fine, beautifully blended flavours. However… they’ve recently “changed” their menus and the Butter Chicken is now $30 for 4 tiny chicken pieces (without rice), they justify the price as being side dishes which they are not. That’s four TINY pieces, that is very uncommon and a rort.
This is wholeheartedly not worth the money and there are equivalent restaurants that serve a more decent portion.
They were also too lazy to let us sit outside and at previous times had the audacity to strongly suggest to round up the already ludicrous bill.
These 5 star reviews that appear quickly after genuine critique is also very suspicious.
Great place for some authentic very decorative and creative curry, the interior is very colourful with creative funky art.
The curry was delicious!
Horrible experience with their set menu and i could write horrible ten times more if that could make it right. Never going here ever again and please do them all a favor and get rid of curry bombs.
Adding my response here to your comments - I was advised to make a separate booking on the day when i called the restaurant.please check your facts before coming back at us. We ordered outside the set menu and were served accordingly as well. Al
we asked was to get al-la-carte. Andyes, We don’t get treated unreasonably every other day so, would have approached you another way if had an option on your ‘thank you’ mail.
From the minute I arrived in Sydney to visit my daughter, she told me we HAVE to come here and she was SO right! A really authentic Indian restaurant in cool, trendy style. All staff were super helpful including our server, Amar, who was respectful, knowledgable and truly a great asset to the restaurant. Delicious food, brilliant setting and a great dessert recommendation by Amar all made from a delicious meal and lovely evening.
Good food and good selection of variety of dishes to choose from. Management accomodated us 15 minutes prior to our booking time which was awesome.
Docking one star because portion size was just a bit less than what you would expect for the money. The staff were busy, but it kinda felt like they were ignoring us at times.
Good ambience and definitely a great place to have dinner with either family or friends.
One of the worst experience I had with masala theory. After seeing their tempting menu online, we thought lets try this restaurant on our special day (Anniversary), we ordered Hafus aam pana and thecha paneer in starter after their suggestion but to be very honest it was not at all good, the kind of description they have written it looks very amazing but in actual the taste is very bad same with the aam pana. Main course items are very limited and very costly and if you are a real indian food lover I would suggest this is not the place worth giving a try. They are trying to modify the authentic indian recipes and they end up with some disastrous taste
I forgot to take a photo of our mains but the food was genuinely so good. If you only get one thing here, make sure it is the curry bombs (fusion pani puri). They have two different types, one with chicken and the other with paneer. They are both really good but I personally prefer the one with paneer. The curry is absolutely delicious.
The walls are also pretty cool and they are signed by famous cricketers who have visited. Overall, good food and Friendly staff. I would 100% come back.
Ps. They also usually have deals on the ‘eatclub’ app for a cheeky discount.
Worst Indian food and worst experience I’ve ever had in Sydney. Service was inn-effectual, food was barely edible and cold.
Now, from the very beginning, a person approached to us for an order after 20 minutes (I am talking about a quiet Saturday with over 5 staff members and Barely any crowd at 9.20). We had a couple of questions to which we asked for a minute or two. I swear, I had to call in the next server just for an order.
Food was mediocre, definitely not worth the price, mild (obviously Indians are not a target crowd), a little tasteless at times and the worst part is- all the naan breads were cold. Probably tasteless and cold food are a part of “neo-Indian” tradition to which they are luring their customers with.
P. S. I had ordered a salli boti (no good at all), butter naans (so cold) and a mixed non- veg entree splash platter or something (not even worth remembering and curry balls thing (basically butter chicken in pain-puri balls, ewww!)
Oh the only good part (no, nothing about their ambience) was the cocktail I got aka Somras.
Thank you but No thanks.
Everyone time I go here the food is always delicious and well seasoned. Had an amazing date with my boyfriend and all the food on the menu is so well priced. I’ve gone here a few times and still haven’t tried everything. Excellent spot for dates or sharing with mates. Amar (hope I spelt it right) and all the staff are always friendly and accommodating to us. Absolutely love it here thank you guys!
Awesome experience. Super friendly staff, were able to adjust the menu for allergies and dietary requirements. Highly recommend to all. Must try!
