Lal Qila Restaurant reviews
66Well what a huge disappointment! This place was one of the best Indians for a long time. It’s been awhile since I was last here but how the standards have dropped. The quality of the meat was terrible! Flavours very average, and the waitress did not care for feedback. I’m part of a curry club, visiting an Indian every 3 weeks for the last 12 years so I know my way around. Do yourself a favour and give this place a miss. Sad to say but Lalqila has died.
Incredible food, cozy atmosphere and the staff are amazing and so helpful in ordering the dishes. We tried BBQ platter and handi with rogini naan recommend by the staff. Really good
The food was incredibly delicious, and the Ras malai was absolutely awesome. It was so good that it left me feeling extremely satisfied. I'm truly delighted to have visited this place. Moreover, the customer service provided by "Ms Ritu" was top-notch and exceeded my expectations.
Best Pakistani restaurant in surry Hills.
Must try with family and friends.
Highly recommended.

Matching our lockdown takeaway eating to items we can’t cook at home, we hit up Lal Qila in Surry Hills. This Pakistani restaurant, which has a second, fancier-looking restaurant in Darling Harbour, makes great use of the tandoor. Plucked from an extensive menu, Naramdil Galafi Seekh ($17.90) are spicy minced chicken kebabs served on a simple selection of cooling salad with a squeeze of fresh lemon. Aftabi Tandoori Phool ($16.90) gives tender florets of charred, golden-hued cauliflower flavoured with garlic, ginger and spices. From the range of tandoor-cooked chicken dishes we opted for the Pakistani favourite, Murgh-e- Musalam ($20.90), where yoghurt, vinegar and spices gave an almost creamy surface that contrasted well with the chook’s charred edges.
Cooked on the side of the cylindrical oven, the fluffy garlic cheese naan ($5.90) here is a contender for Sydney’s best. Khumb Pulao ($7.90) and Zafrani Mater Pulao ($7.90) are simple rice dishes, respectively dotted with mushrooms and garden peas. We saved the bulk of them to freeze for a curry night later in the week. A generous Shouq-e-Nawab (BBQ Biryani) ($24.90) rounded out our meal. Well-separated long-grain Basmati rice coloured with saffron hides plentiful hunks of tandoor-cooked chicken. We tried it for dinner but kept the bulk of this spicy rice dish for lunch the next day, with an accompanying cooling, home-made mint raita. Not a bad outcome for a takeaway meal for two that cost fewer than a hundred bucks.
An absolutely pathetic experience! This was my 1st and last time ordering from here. Ordered chicken adraki and Butter naan. The curry was overflowing with oil, taste was atrocious and boiled chicken was put in the watery curry. Butten naan which is 3.90 dollar/piece did not even have 0.001 dollar worth of butter. What a loot!

Pathetic service, bad customer service, long wait for order to come, expansive food, along with lowest quality & quantity of food.
If that was'nt enough to make our experince worse, here comes the rude staff who does'nt respect/listen to the customers. NEVER going again!
The food was delicious and good serving size! Loved the bread too:). There are many dishes that I had never seen before in other restaurants so I recommend Lal Qila
It is a good place to taste south Asian food. Specially Pakistan, there is no alcohol, if you need it, bring it with you.
Horrible customer service. It was a nightmare. They do not know how to behave with a customer, especially with ones who may have special dietary needs. Please note that we did not have food restrictions related to allergy but a basic vegetable we cannot have. When we expressed that matter to the person, he rather made a mockery. Very unprofessional, disrespectful, and disappointing.
The food is good with plenty of options to choose from and is always consistent. If you are up for some spice and different tatse this is recommended.
The food is AMAZING!
Was so good I selected them to cater for my wedding. They hold a Gold class license too. The food is sooo good! Staff are attentive.
Very happy, and WILL BE BACK AGAIN!
I found a piece of meat in my chicken biryani which wasn't chicken (looked similar to intestine). I sent it back, they replaced, but they refused to accept further orders. After 8 orders from them, they believe it wasn't their mistake.
The food is always a great experience with this authentic Pakistani cuisine restaurant. The special handi with roghni naan bread is scrumptious. The roghni naan bread is soft on the inside and crunchy on the outer sides and is the best i have found in Australia thus far.
The cardamom chai is good too.
We found the chicken seekh kebab to be average and the flavor was enhanced better with raita.
Disgusting customer service. After a long night out, we kindly asked if we could have our takeaway food inside on the table (rather than in our car, we were trying to be considerate of their closing time in half an hour - so we decided to have it in takeaway indoors) and the staff were extremely disappointing and unwelcoming. We felt so mistreated so we just walked out.
DEFINITELY NOT GOIN HERE OR ORDERING FROM THEM AGAIN
The first rule of running a dine in is to treat your customer with smile. But I got greeted with an attitude by the lady at the reception.
At first I gave her the benefit of doubt that she probably has had a bad day at work, only to realize that’s how she would treat us for the later part of our stay.
We had to ask them pack our dinner as we didn’t want to spoil an evening out.
PS: Food was not great either. Below average.

Absolutely disgraceful service! Have you heard of an Iftaar buffet and they not serving tap water as part of the buffet after charging $35 per head! Could not cope up with the crowd during the buffet! Seemed that they were only interested in serving large groups and were ignoring other tables! Definitely no more visits ever again to some place that does not value its customers.
Good food but using Covid as an excuse not to serve tap water and charge for bottled water is poor form. Tap water was always available as the food is spicy H2O is needed in quantity. A very poor excuse.
We placed an order through Menulog at 4pm to which a beautiful $111 order was placed. They cancelled it almost immediately and when we called to ask why, this lady answered saying "Yeah, I cancelled it. " I asked for a reason and she said, "We don't do delivery, " following up with, "We don't have a driver. " I proceeded to say okay we are happy to pick up the food so can you switch the order and complete it? The woman said, "No. We aren't open until 5pm. You can come and order face to face then. "
I am completely shocked with the rudeness of this lady. And also, why do you have all these options for delivery available on Menulog when you are not able to actually meet the requirements? Forget the taste of the food. Your people represent your company and when there isn't appropriate customer service, you expect people to enjoy your food?
Such a shame. You lost some customers today.
Have been to restaurant at 7 times or more. Last experience was very disappointing. We had a few mango Lassi s and asked for tap water but were told that we had to purchase bottled water $4 small bottles due to Covid!
