Katoomba Maxi

Friendly and prompt service. This company cares about the mountains community.

I made three bookings with Katoomba Maxi on 24 Oct 2022 (around Katoomba and Wentworth Falls area) and was satisfied with the prompt and reliable service provided.

Fares were by the meter and seemed reasonable enough.

Our driver was familiar with the various sites and landmarks around the Blue Mountains.

Conversely, I had tried to make a separate booking with another company - Katoomba Taxis - and was rejected (rather impolitely, I might add) as they were unsure of my pick-up location, which came as a surprise as I was at a pretty well-known tourist site.

Based on this experience alone, I would recommend Katoomba Maxi for travelers visiting the Blue Mountains without a car.

Picked us up promptly from the station put our luggage in and delivered two adults and two kids plus baggage with ease to hotel then took our luggage off.very nice driver.

Russell is an Incredibly unpleasant, aggressive and threatening driver. He refused to use the meter and insisted on charging double what we had just been charged for the same trip in reverse two hours prior. When question he threatened to call the police. During the trip he drove far too fast around corners and was constantly complaining. He took a phone call from a potential customer while we were in the cab and proceeded to abuse them so they hung up. Kept telling us how busy he was and how difficult his job is. You're better off walking home than letting this guy spoil your evening.

As a local, I can forgive the taxis for taking their time but to back track from the main road to crawl up Katoomba Street ensuring we are on the wrong side of the road for the station and also miss the train is unforgivable. Edit: I wrote my original thoughts while angry so here's an update - we used Maxi taxis again upon returning from our trip and the driver was friendly helpful, and went the way we asked as expected. My tip is to always ask them to avoid Katoomba Street during the day.

Russell (the owner) is a volatile and aggressive man, A bad experience last night, where a round trip with two people turned into Russell stopping the meter halfway and charging for two trips.

When I challenged him about this, he became aggressive, then drove carelessly (speeding around corners, and breaking the speed limit) to the police station to settle it.
Police sided with Russell, which was a little weird imo. Has anyone dropped someone off in a cab en route, then requested to be taken to a destination, only for the cabbie to stop the meter and state it was now 2 trips? Never had that before, personally.

Still, I’m not writing this because of the cash, but because of his response when I challenged him.
I will not be using his services again. He has real issues with his temper.
