Kai Fan Chinese Restaurant reviews
52 Excellent food and generous portions.
The menu is definitely different from other Chinese restaurants.
Will come back.
We were actually on our way somewhere else but were drawn in by the excellent posters of their dishes outside. And we were not disappointed. Quality, authentic Chinese food. Szechuan dumplings, spring onion pancake with a wicked chinese spiced salt for seasoning, lunar new year special steamed pork belly in red sauce, twice cooked eggplant in a sticky spicy sauce (the best I've ever had, we had chopstick fights over the last few pieces), to name a few highlights. Very gracious and attentive staff too. Just awesome.
The service is very good and the food is great. I will come again next time I visit New Castle.
Unfortunately we came on a night that was very busy, and the building was having major problems with the electricity cutting out. It was obviously a very stressful time for all involved but the staff handled it well. The only reason for the 4 stars is because we received our food after an hour long wait, and the pork dumplings came out pink and cold in the middle (My partner accidentally ate one!). They were replaced when pointed out to the staff - however some sort of acknowledgment / compensation / apology would have taken this review to 5 stars. I would still definitely recommend though as it was delicious food! We just came on a bad night. We are excited to visit again soon!
The first time I smell the fragrance and get off the horse, the aftertaste is endless and deeply rooted in my heart;
Returning to search for thousands of miles, it is a pity to miss it;
After exhausting tens of thousands of home visits, I was lucky enough to know and meet again;
Google gives five stars first, in case there is nowhere to go.
This is one of the finest restaurants in Newcastle. The food is excellent. Highly recommended.
The family and I were in Newcastle today and weren't sure what to have for lunch. Being on Darby meant we were spoiled for choice but we were walking past Kai Fan and it looked great so we decided to give it a go.
Happy to report that everything was excellent. It wasn't overly busy, which suited us fine. With the two kids + a pram in tow the staff were patient with us all as we navigated ourself to our table and got settled.
When we sat down our 2 year old immediately launched herself at the bowls and tableware. The waitress cleared her space and brought back plastic bowls, cups and spoons. Perfect! It helped us relax a lot knowing she wouldn't involuntarily destroy something. Wish more places did this
The food was fantastic. We had steamed BBQ pork buns, a variety of dumplings, spring rolls and fried rice. Everything was fresh and delicious.
I didn't look to deeply at their wine list but they had a nice selection of local and imported beer as well as spirits.
All up lunch was $90 for the 4 of us (2 x adults/ 2 x kids), this included a beer for myself and a few soft drinks.
We will definitely be returning and if you're after a great meal and experience I'd wholeheartedly recommend you pop in and give Kai Fan a try.
Very friendly staff, yummy authentic food. Best Mongolian beef we’ve ever tried! Kids loved the honey chicken and the pan fried pork & chive dumplings were divine. We’ll be back asap!
Ordered a substantial amount of food to be delivered, and they cancelled our order without any notification after about 20 minutes. We'll take our business elsewhere then, if they don't want it.
We had a disappointing experience here on a Saturday night.
The service was terrible. It was clear the waiter was new to the job and lacking in any training and knowledge. It was a struggle to explain our basic order.
The food was a long time coming and poorly timed. We ordered two dumpling dishes, two mains and rice. The food came out in drips and drabs in no particular order. We basically finished our meal and still no second order of dumplings so we cancelled that item. The food itself was very nice, except the rice under cooked.
We had been here once before (a year ago) and had a much better evening. Hopefully our experience was just an anomaly, but we won't be going back anytime soon.
Ordered several dishes only dumplings and rice arrived. Waitress had no idea what happened to the rest of our order
maps shows people this shop close at 21: 00, however it only open to 2pm …what the he'll? Why not make it right? Definitely waste customer time. Would never come again
Best Chinese restaurant in Newcastle. Authentic taste and less salty. Staff is friendly. Highly recommend.
The food and service are just a delight. It's not everyday that one gets to enjoy nice food, great atmosphere and.lovely service. The owner shared some of his story and it was a great learning experience. Looking forward to next time
Please do NOT visit the restaurant. It is the worst Chinese restaurant i ever visited. Noodle tooo salty; chicken is so bad that you can NOT find a good meat. You cannot believe there was a chicken head-like inside. 80% is bone, and u will find ur exercising ur teeth to find the meat.
The portion is so small, even you spent $29 for the chicken. Totally waste of money. Did not (never come back) try other dishes, just the thoughts for the two dishes. Hope helpful for future customers.
I've never been to a place where the food has been so inedible that it left me and my family feeling sick afterwards. Food was frozen and just reheated with a strange taste. Couldn't finish the dumplings because it tasted funky. A lot of dishes we wanted were not available. Place has an unhygienic smell and is overall lacking in cleanliness. Definitely not authentic chinese and would not recommend.
Amazing food amazing taste. We unfortunately have to wait a bit longer than expected due to busy take away orders but 100% worth the wait! If you want authentic Chinese food it is definitely the place to be! We will be back shortly to taste other great dishes!
We enjoyed a delicious Chinese dinner with a good South Australian red wine. The owner / manager was a friendly host and made us feel welcomed when we arrived. There is a good selection of meals to choose from and ours was really nice. The red wine was quality. We liked the interior design, and the quiet atmosphere was relaxing and allowed us to enjoy a conversation. We dined inside, however there is outdoor seating. Our meals were served quickly and were hot and tasty.
I wish if I could give a zero star. Despite serving raw fish, the arrogant chef sat next to my table banging the fish and started eating with slurpy noise. Why should you go back to them. The staff who served was polite. However the chef or the owner who was arrogant. I used their bathroom which was pathetic unhygienic and with zero cleanliness. On the way to the bathroom you can see their kitchen with zero hygiene. I will be taking this up further.
Pleasantly surprised by the depth of the flavours. Even the pan fried dumplings tasted better than the usual from other restaurants. The dan dan noodles is a must! And a very nice touch of the waiter to offer warm tap water on a cold rainy day.
