InterContinental Sydney reviews
59 Had lots of problems with the rooms (smelly room with no working phone line) and the "solution" offered to us was to be moved to a Twin room (instead of the King we booked) and were told it's an "upgrade" (even though the new room had the exact same design and view as the King one).
Furthermore, the manager told us that the front desk will call us next morning to switch us back to a King room but sure enough that call never arrived.
The hospitality at the hotel certainly left a lot to be desired
2 Day Stay (Dec 2023).
The hotel in general is wonderful and has a luxury feel. Staff at check-in were very welcoming and level of personal touches were awesome (complimentary Prosecco in room for birthday celebration). Great location right by the Opera House and close to the Circular Quay Ferries/Train.
Accomodation:
King room with Opera house view (no club access), had amazing views out the window (non-opening and no balcony). The room is arguably on the small end, but certainly sufficient. Bed is comfortable and the bathroom/toilet is as you expect with a high star rated hotel. Complimentary bottled water was provided to the room each day.
Breakfast buffet was tasty and had a wide selection of food options. I quite liked the 3 options of water available on tap (chilled, sparkling, room-temp). Cooked to order eggs was also available.
Facilities:
Good fitness centre.
Only a small indoor pool area that gets very stuffy, with no food/drinks service nearby. So honestly not enjoyable at all.
There is no significant outdoor place to enjoy a meal or have a drink. There is an indoor courtyard type area (which looks lovely) and you can enjoy some food/drinks, but is still indoors. So a shame when the weather is fantastic. Admittedly, there is the Aster rooftop bar, which as amazing views of the harbour (and great food and cocktails) but this requires a booking, and has a minimum spend requirement of $60 per person, even if you are a hotel guest. Also a rough 2 hr time limit applies. Also only opens around 4 pm.
Overall, we had a lovely stay as a couple that was looking to explore outside the hotel, and end the night with a drink at the bar. I would argue though, that this would not be good choice for families or if you are hoping to stay within a hotel for multiple hours.
We stayed over the weekend to celebrate a family milestone, and this hotel did not disappoint! The staff, especially Anna at check in, and Ivan and Sam in the club lounge made us feel especially welcome with their friendliness and attentive service. We also really enjoyed the food - the breakfast buffet was as delicious as it was filled with variety, the club lounge canapes and high tea were absolutely delightful! From memory this was our third visit to the IC Sydney and each time it gets better and better. I'm looking forward to next time already:)
It claims to be a five star hotel. The rooms are decent - meet the standard - and the service is good for Australia. But the food is awful when you can get any. They make you queue for breakfast! I mean they have room to offer more than one venue but they decide to close the lobby restaurant in the morning and have one small restaurant open and so, everyone queues to get it. Absolutely disgraceful. How much do they charge to stay there again?
This hotel has declined in quality and service. The prices still remain 5 star prices but the quality of facilities and rooms combined with the decline in cleanliness has encouraged us to stay somewhere else from now on. This was our second stay in 6 months and hasn’t improved.
This is really nice hotel. I think the views, bar, restaurant and common areas are a 5. The rooms (size and feel) are a 3. Saying that the views; great tea/coffee, robes, bath products make them a 4/5. I’ve been to plenty of hotels and this is decent. It’s in a great location - harbour and amazing restaurants close by. Even though the room initially put me off a bit, I would probably still choose it again. Gym and pool both fine too. Try Grana restaurant close by, it’s outstanding.
Location, hygiene, bedding, and breakfast are all perfect.
I am very grateful to the DANIEL staff who helped me during breakfast in fluent Korean.
Just spent a week here with my family. Spectacular location. Service was exceptional, especially the breakfast service with Kenny, he’s an all star. Kenny went above and beyond every day for us, accommodating my family and a baby with a smile every morning for breakfast. Thanks Kenny!
Great location with close proximity to most of CBD attractions and shopping streets. Seems some of the floors and under renovations. The rates and packages are fantastic too.
Because nothing was clean it was a drirty dirtry hotel would never come again its stupid and annoying and they are all blind tyhere i had tov help a old man up 12345321 stairs and he fell because it was so stupid NEVER AGAIN RUBBISH SURVIS
A great staycation with the family. Staff were friendly and accommodating with our little bubba. Crib was supplied by the hotel on request (proper cot off the ground not a travel cot which was a nice surprise) plus included baby toiletries and a little welcome gift (teddy bear) for our daughter. Great location with lots of food options in the area. Definitely recommend high tea on the top floor which has amazing views!
Views from the outdoor deck are worth the price of a cocktail alone. Friendly and efficient service. Great place to enjoy some after show nibbles and cocktails.
Have had to change my review to a 1 star as I was now well over charged for services when I had already checked out of the hotel. Very disappointing.
Pretty good facilities and the customer service was exceptional. Renovations are currently being undertaken but we had no issues with noise reported by others. Easy walk to Circular Quay and therefore public transport and other venues in the Sydney CBD.
Great location, good service, fabulous harbor views. Breakfast mmmm not fab but worth a try.
Panorama bar is a must visit and a shout out and thanks to Jin and Nara for the best customer service experience.
Best stay in the CBD, by far. Perfect location and spacious rooms. Only thing worth noting is prices at the in-house café, as it is expensive for what you get.
I’ve so far been charged around $400 in minibar charges when I didn’t touch the minibar. I’ve had to call around five times and still haven’t got anywhere, and they’re still deducting money from my card. I keep getting told a manager will call me or email me but it never happens.
I’ll never stay in an IHG hotel again, and will make sure my friends and family don’t either. Next stop is the ombudsman, I think.
One of the best locations you can get in Sydney, right next to Circular Quay with loads of public transport options (less than 30 minutes to the domestic airport, mere minutes to the ferries). Panorama bar is a nice place for a cocktail or wine with a relaxed atmosphere and terrific views of the Harbour bridge and Opera house. You can even go outside on the 36th floor.
The King Room with East Harbour Views was spacious and comfortable with a great bed and nice views. The indoor swimming pool on the 36th floor was a nice bonus. The included buffet breakfast was good with plenty of options and barista made coffee. For the price of $263 per night this was exceptional value, only possible due to the lack of international tourists, so take the opportunity while you can.
Perfect location but the room interior was old and very thing is out of date. But still the best location to stay in Sydney.
Have you ever tried to call this "5-star" hotel? Worse possible experience. "Press 2 for events" - goes straight to voice mail and no one responds. "Press 3 for finance" - you get "Mailbox full". "Press 1 for bookings" and you get stuck in a never ending loop of being on hold. Clearly they're struggling.
