Hurstville Museum & Gallery reviews
20Interesting domestic objects from the 20s through to 60s. Aboriginal peoples of the area exhibition very interesting too.
Small community museum that gives an artist the opportunity to exhibit their work, free entry to the exhibition
Liked the “off the rails” display.
Also, good to read about the history of the local area.
Cottage museum minutes from the train station with exhibitions changing throughout the year. Kids dig it
Seriously talented arts, I was amazed at the skill and precision in the artworks. I would also recommend going to operation art (held there) where lots of fun arts and crafts take place
Initially was looking where to use the discover vouchers. The museum was free. I don't think they market it very well, because I didn't see anywhere it was free. It was a Sunday afternoon. The car park close by is free on a Sunday. It was a nice activity to do. Very informative. Left there reflecting how much we've progressed forward as a society. Although unvaccinated people are now the minority group and mistreated due to their reasons. Almost gone backwards there.
This is the best little museum. It has the greatest artefacts, friendliest staff and a great introduction to our local area.
Quaint cottage museum minutes from the train station with exhibitions changing throughout the year. Kids dig it
A very interesting place to visit. There is a combination of permanent local history rooms plus a couple of temporary exhibitions. We saw a stone and marble exhibition which was really good
Quaint cottage museum minutes from the train station with exhibitions changing throughout the year. Kids dig it. Adds a nice touch to the community.
Was there for the writers expo, and heard them read their stories plus the art bomb artists, and also so.e photography was great, lived it
Never knew this place existed! Amazing little local museum with very affordable kids & art workshops.
Went there to get JP to sign some documentation.pleasantly surprised as to history and artwork on display
Fun, informative, a great resource for the individual wishing to learn about Hurstville, and surrounding areas.
If you're St George local, it's a great place to drop into for a half hour and relive some local history. There is usually a variety of exhibitions on display some of which change every few months.
A nice little place. Free entry. Number of older relics from bygone days, and some local art as well.
Hurstville Museum & Gallery is dedicated
to the task of collecting and preserving
authentic items that exemplify the cultural
and political history of the St George
region. Most objects featured in the
permanent exhibition, St George Stories:
people - places - community, come from
a collection that began in the 1970s when
the Hurstville Historical Society started
gathering items connected to local
history. The collection currently holds
over 5,000 objects and continues to grow
predominantly through donations.
There's a posting with a photo of mrs.vani srinivasan in the very first room. Anoying information and disgusting to the visitor like me.
The gallery and museum is a real trier. It's difficult with the premises, but there is a real effort to present things that are interesting. It's not really fair to compare it with places like Hazelhurst or the Mosman gallery, but I do admire the effort that is made. I keep tabs on what is planned as its local and I have been surprised and pleased with the exhibits.
Small museum in what may have once been the only house in Hurstville. There's plenty of local history crammed into the front two rooms - with exhibitions of art out the back. Plenty of relics from yesteryear help piece together a history of this part of Sydney. Go here if you're a local, or would like to be.
