H&R Block Tax Accountants - Manly

Mark is an excellent personal tax professional - he does top quality work, clearly cares about his clients, and goes above and beyond to provide excellent customer service. I wish I’d found him sooner. Highly recommend.

Tax return advertised as $99 on website. I went into the Manly branch & saw Scott. He said $99 was for a basic return. I had just started a new job, I had 2 x PAYG summaries and a new car which had to be taken into consideration. The account fees jumped to $228 if I paid by card & $258 if they took the fee out of my return. I opted for the card payment but was charged from my return.
I couldn't claim uniform without branding or my orthopaedic shoes. I couldn't claim taxi /Uber which were my only means of transport during Covid lockdown when my buses schedule was canned for a fortnight.
The cherry-on-top, 2 MONTHS LATER, HR block sends me an email requesting I pay $258 because the ATO didn't pay them. I called the manager, who apologised on behalf of the branch, and paid $228 because it came off my card in the end.
I felt like such a number. I wouldn't go back or recommend them.

Great small business, go above and beyond in terms of service and always a relaxed experience which is different when you think of Tax.

Update: whilst I wouldn't use H&R Block again, to their credit they did refund me for the service. Rating reflects them coming to the party to resolve the issue, but still wouldn't be a service I advocate.

Poor experience - staff don't walk you through the tax return process, do not try to collaborate to get good results for the client, sit there scrolling through books to find out what they need to do, do not leave you feeling like you're in good hands and blindly just ask for payment at the end of the session.

Avoid - find an independent tax consultant who actually knows what they're doing

Update: H&R Block responded to me on here asking for me to contact them as they take customer satisfaction seriously. But obviously not that seriously because 4 working days on from following their instructions, still no response (despite a 24 hour response time promised in the automated email from H&R). Speaks volumes for how much they actually care

H&R Block Manly are great for getting the best result possible with the lest hassle. I have been using them for the last 10+ years and I have never been disappointed with my returns or the professional service that I receive each and every time.

A tale of two halves.

The financial year before last, one of the tax accountants from this branch helped me sort & file my tax returns with ease. I gave a five star rating then.

Fast forward to the last financial year. Because they were good to me before, I decided to use their services once again even though my income tax return wasn’t complicated and I could have done it easily. This time, it took me about 4 follow up phone calls and 1 email to get my refund which took over 5 weeks. So I have amended my rating to three stars.

Will I use their services again? I really don’t know!
