Hollywood Hotel reviews
16An excellent secluded pub for those after a more local-feel away just a walk away from the hustle of CBD and Surry Hills centre. Ben, Em and the team were very prompt in arranging an outdoor booking with perfect space! Free gigs that run frequently are also worth going for those staying back late.
A wonderful and genuine expression of the personalities of the people who run the place. Absolutely fun, welcoming, open, and friendly:)
Security guy needs to be friendlier and the DJ is super jaded.
And the bar woman was clearing our drinks away and they were still full!
We had to say “hey they’re still full”.
I mean!
Sorry HH
What a shame
Great location and vibe. The owner is super friendly and generous.
Unfortunately, some of the staff members were pushy. The girl picking up the glasses tried to take away my full drink. I made it very clear that I wasn't going to allow it. Her reply "I'm doing my job" was a joke.
Go a have fun. But keep an eye on your drinks!
We had a blast playing here last Saturday for a 40th birthday party! Everything went smoothly and everyone enjoyed the night. We'd like to thank Greta, Ben and the whole team for assisting us! Looking forward to be back here!
Typical bar for the area, not real flash, limited tap range, getting to the Gents is arguably an ever increasing challenge as the night progresses as one gentleman discovered. I would urge the barkeep to refrain from making Dark & Stormy's with post-mix ginger ale: ruins the experience.
Great place, great history, great staff. Been reinvented but hasn’t lost its soul. Visit and watch with interest.and the urinals are numbered. Use #1
If I could give this place 10 starts I would.
We booked our wedding at the Hollywood Hotel and honestly we couldn't have picked a better place.
Ben and his team went above and beyond to make our day so special. Ben is a superstar and runs the venue like a well oiled machine. His staff are positive, friendly, and kept totally calm even when under the the pump.
I can't recommend this place enough if you are thinking of having a private party. Even if you are just in Surry Hills and you want a quiet drink or you want to attend a live gig.
This is a Sydney institution and in my opinion is the real heart and soul of the city.
Thanks again Ben and the HH team. You made our wedding the best it possibly could be.

No reschs on tap, only Young Henrys. I've heard that drinking a Newtowner is like snorting Pavlova. On the other hand they do have the YH Porter on tap. Great pub, though - highly recommend.
MISSY THE CAT RETURNS!
A stealth local - well worth a walk across the CBD when you get the urge for more than a middy. Perhaps it's down to new ownership, but I had completely overlooked The Hollywood for many, many years. As in, "how did *this* get here? ! " Anyway, whatever The Hollywood may have been before, it's now a friendly, charming place with retro decor and a lot of architecturally interesting interior features. Great spot to brace yourself for the CBD, or recover from it when you're done.

Missy The Cat Star Ratings:
5 - a place of rare genius that merits repeated return visits
4 - a strong effort with no major shortcomings
3 - a solid, worthy effort with perhaps one important thing to fix
2 - several important things wrong, but at least one important thing right
1 - can't be given a zero, doesn't deserve a dollar (as of review date)
Suppose you are looking for a place with soul and more than just food and drinks. This is the place where you can find relaxed people chilling, surrounded by cool customers the young guys at the bar are always happy to do their job with a big smile. You will appreciate local beers.
I had a little function here for my sisters hens. Great vibe, super friendly staff.
Would highly recommend!
My favourite pub in Sydney. Why would you have a beer anywhere else? Incredible friendly staff, great music, excellent toasties.
An character filled original Art Deco inner city pub - no frills, no modern styling - just warm, charming with a great crowd.
Came here for trivia with Lucky Trivia. Brian was an amazing host and the pub had a great vibe. Although the bar didn't serve food, we were allowed to bring in outside food and that meant fried chicken from Butter! It was an awesome night!
