Holiday Inn Express Newcastle, an IHG Hotel

TL;DR-This would be 5 stars, except for the mattress. Plastic doesn't breathe and traps heat.
The staff is fantastic, every team member I interacted with has been very friendly and eager to help, in any way possible.
The breakfast is far better than most I've experienced in the States. The eggs are great, not overcooked into hard lumps like most hotel breakfasts.
The rooms are clean and have many modern conveniences, with Chromecast available on TVs, USB outlets on walls, and pretty good room A/C (though it turns off when it doesn't detect a person, so must be turned on every time you return). Showers are height adjustable and have a hand wand with good pressure, all appreciated features. Water temperature does swing by ~5°C every 30s, but that's not the too bad.
My only real complaint is the beds, which would be comfortable, but have a plastic sheet stitched onto them, meaning they trap heat. (Apparently Sealy sells this option as "EziCare", but this is the first time I've seen it and I travel frequently for work).
Fellow hot sleepers beware! I ended up having to flip the mattress onto the non-plush side so I wasn't waking up multiple times from overheating. This could easily be fixed by simply cutting this layer off, but I haven't seen any other reviews pointing this out. I have the feeling this is why some others were disappointed with the beds, even if they didn't know the root cause

We stayed here in January 2024. The hotel is great the rooms are on the small side but still has ample space. The rooms are very clean and nicely decorated. The water in our shower kept going hot and cold and also the water pressure kept going from low to high, but we just left it as we were staying for one night. The breakfast was nothing great but it comes with every room apparently so it was adequate.

Room was nice a clean, bed and pillows were really comfy, the only thing is the bathroom does not have wall just glass.

Top notch services. Room is nice, lots of amenities. Super customer service - they let us check in early and were very accommodating with any asks (eg, extra blanket, electricity issues in the room). In a very convenient location, close to train, light rail and buses. Decent breakfast. The self-service laundry is a nice bonus too (and very affordable).

Room was clean and modern-looking with plenty of power points to charge things and alright views. Breakfast had good variety and tasted alright

This hotel is nice, clean and the staff is friendly but it is definitely not a hotel to rest. You can hear all the noise from the other rooms, every time they close a door it makes a lot of noise, It's horrible trying to sleep and hearing the noise from the rooms next door.

This is the best place to stay in Newcastle hands down. The staff is friendly and helpful for any need. The rooms are very clean and quiet. It is close to the mall and great restaurants. You can not go wrong with this one.

Very good experience, I knew I checked in way too early but was able to be squeezed into a room. Staff were lovely and chatty.

Useful facilities on premises, which was laundromat and gym, which I used. Breakfast was included which was a major bonus, which was free.

Only thing I felt was missing was room service, however, menulog was a good remedy to the front desk.

Rooms were reasonably sized for the price per night. I hope to come back again in future when I visit Newcastle again.

Best place to stay if you are visiting Newcastle close to everything very clean modern and good Free breakfast.

A good clean, functional room and affordable stay. Welcoming lobby and friendly helpful reception staff. Breakfast was included and had what you need. Easy access to the tram or bus to get about. Supermarket close by.

Drove down to Newcastle to see a show at the Civic Theatre.
Best value hotel in Newcastle, clean tidy rooms, parking, breakfast at what I consider to be a great price.
Excellent staff, and great location, the light rail station is less than 100 metres around the corner.
Would be happy to stay there anytime.

The hotel is very homely with all the facilities required. Staff is very friendly and located very close to the Newcastle Interchange. It also offers complimentary breakfast. It is highly recommended.

Rooms are clean and tidy, enough linen in bathroom provided, housekeeping staff do an exceptional job, well done to the team.

Self serve breakfast is well appointed and set out with style and choices.

Fantastic place to stay. Rooms were very neat and clean, not big but great for one or two nights. Included breakfast was a nice surprise! Close to transport.
