Historic Stannum House reviews
86 I had an extremely disappointing experience with this hotel, and I feel compelled to share my frustration. The level of unreliability, dishonesty, and disregard for customer time is simply unacceptable.
After attempting to book for several months, I reached out to check on the status of my reservation. Shockingly, I was advised to "look for another place" mere two weeks before my requested stay. This blatant lack of professionalism left me both frustrated and inconvenienced.
To make matters worse, when I requested the owner's contact information to expedite the process myself, I was met with shocking honesty. They disclosed that the hotel was facing financial difficulties, resulting in occasional power outages. Moreover, they disclosed ongoing bankruptcy proceedings.
While I appreciate transparency, it is unacceptable that they led me on for months without disclosing these critical issues. I would have appreciated honesty from the beginning rather than wasting my time and creating unnecessary stress.
Considering the hotel's deceptive practices and unreliable service, I strongly caution potential guests to think twice before choosing this establishment. There are numerous reputable options available that prioritise transparency and customer satisfaction, unlike this regrettable experience at Stannum House. Save yourself the hassle and explore alternatives that value your time and trust.
I don’t think my jaw has ever dropped so far as being shown my room in this hotel. We were simply looking for budget accommodation on our road trip and somehow ended up feeling like we were royalty. This hotel will take you back to a time long before you existed in the best kind of way. What an incredible find. Simply the best hotel experience I’ve ever had. Get the Blue Room if you can. The elegance of the past (with the shower of the future). The staff were super generous with us too.
Always a pleasure staying here - beautiful rooms, nice common area facilities (fridge, microwave, full crockery and cutlery and tea essentials).
Grounds are well kept, the display rooms are well adorned.
Owner/staff super friendly.
While located a bit away from the town centre, Tenterfield is quite walkable, and the view from the house is grand.
FIVE STARS, but I would give Stannum House more if I could. I felt like the KING and my wife felt like the QUEEN.
Over the weekend I had the pleasure of staying in the beautiful Stannum house. The Consierge or Owner (I forgot to ask) was an incredibly helpful and friendly gentleman. If I could give this place more than five stars I would.
Beautiful heritage building in a lovely town where the locals are so friendly and welcoming. Staying at the Stannum completes the atmosphere of staying in such a beautiful place ️
This is a fantastic old building with so much history. The shame is it is in poor repair. It needs to be in the UK where the National Trust can take it over. Very handy to the pub though. Not a fan of the cold but put the hester on and room was very toasty for such a huge room.
Beautiful old house with rooms decorated in the eras style. I loved reading the history, and looking at beautiful decorating. Built 1888, It really made you imagine life 130 years ago!
We had our 2 children with us (9&11) and it was great, however might not be with small kids as lots of breakables about?
Many rooms you need to access via stairs, something to consider if not super mobile.
Manager was super helpful and lovely.
Breakfast was a basic continental of toast and cereal but for the price of the room was a good inclusion.
Shared kitchenette area to make tea/coffee etc, shared guest fridge and lounge area.
Thank you!
Loved Stannum House. The view from the tower over looking Tenterfield amazing.
Such an awesome house takes you back in time. $99 per room for 3 with a continental breakfast included.
Beautiful historic house just outside the city centre. Green rolling hills surround the area. Lovely to chat with the other guests over breakfast.
A work in progress, a real mix of the past and the present. We enjoyed Stannum House and Tenterfield.
For the first overnight stop on our road trip from Brisbane, Stannum House was a welcome break. We were greeted at the front door by the manager who checked us in and then kindly showed us to our room. The staff were friendly and very helpful.
Breakfast was a continental buffet style arrangement in the dining room downstairs, with a range of cereals, toast, juice and coffee/tea. Our room (the Julius Caesar Room) was very comfortable and spacious, and had its own en-suite. Tea, coffee and refrigerator facilities are available in the common on the first floor landing.
Victorian Italianate in design, Stannum House exudes history from another era, and has the feel of staying in a stately home. Built circa 1888 by John Holmes Reid, a farmer originally from Scotland, who became wealthy through tin mining, the house is named Stannum after the latin word for Tin. The house is located just a short walk from Tenterfield town centre. There is a magnificent view across Tenterfield and surrounds from the roof terrace.
We stayed only one night, but if we had the time would have loved to stay longer. We look forward to our next opportunity to stay at Stannum House.
Amazing historic house, lots of things to take pictures of and the rooms are amazing and there is a common room with fridges, coffee and tea. Electric blankets were so warm. They have a spiral staircase that goes all the way up to a small balcony observatory on the roof. Awesome stay and would recommend to everyone!
Had an excellent stay was very surprised to find we could get a last minute booking while we were just passing through town but just had to spend a night.
Was absolutely thrilled definitely recommending!
Beautiful house that made me appreciate Tenterfields rich history. I was quite comfortable here. Breakfast was basic and good (haven't had fruit toast in years.so that was nice). Staff were super helpful and friendly, eager to make my stay as comfortable as possible. One thing that I would reccomend is attention to the squeaky/creaky beds.
Currently undergoing a staff shortage
But the managers are very helpful.
Rooms are very authentic for the period of the magnificent building.
Basic but good continental breakfast only
. Not hot breakfast of dinners served due to staff shortage.for the price of a nights stay
. Good value and yes I would stay again when next in Tenterfield*.
Service is average. However the buffet which includes Sri Lankan food is quite good although limited in choice. Incredible value though!
What an experience. It is a charming old residence originally built to be government house. Ask for the Julius Ceasar room. It is huge, old and gives a good insight into old world charm.
Modern electric blanket kept me warm.
Breakfast included was a bonus
A beautiful old building not in her prime. Stunning old 1880s mansion that sadly needs some work. Room had paint or wall paper pealing off, furniture broken. Was a freezing night and although rooms had heaters and blankets the fire places remained closed off I guess because the Owners/ managers are not on site. Stayed one night and probably won't go back sadly.
This house has so much to offer - everywhere you look are beautiful examples of an era gone by, lovingly restored. Perfect hosts who made our stay most enjoyable. The rooms are amazing, clean & comfortable beds. We stayed in the Julius Caesar Room - beautiful place!
