Higher Jiu Jitsu

Trained today from out of town (I’m Canadian). First time at this gym, coach John and the other students were very welcoming and helped me get set up with a rental gi and everything I needed.

Good technical instruction and lots of help from the coach and other students.

Great place to train, I highly recommend for first timers or for higher belts!

I joined Higher Jiu Jitsu nine months ago and I am blown away by the quality of training and instruction I have received. From the moment I walked in, I was warmly welcomed by the team and the members.

The gym itself is clean, spacious, and well-equipped with everything you need to train at the highest level. The instructors are knowledgeable, experienced, and patient and they take the time to work with each student individually to help them improve their technique and achieve their goals.
The classes are well-structured and challenging, but also fun and engaging. I leave each class feeling inspired and motivated.
What I love most about this gym is the sense of community and camaraderie that exists among the members. Everyone is supportive and encouraging.

Overall, I would highly recommend this gym to anyone looking to improve their skills, get in shape, and join a supportive and welcoming community of like-minded individuals. Five stars all around!

Been training at Higher for around 8 months now and I couldn’t be happier. All the coaches are very knowledgeable, supportive and dedicated to helping each student improve, regardless of skill level.

In addition to regular classes, the gym also offers a range of seminars, which provide opportunities to learn from some of the top Jiu Jitsu practitioners in the world. I've already attended a couple of these events, and they've been incredibly informative and inspiring.

Overall, I would highly recommend Higher Jiu Jitsu to anyone looking to learn Jiu Jitsu.

I've been going here for about 7 months now and all I can say is John and his team of coaches are absolute legends. It was so easy to start with them and they've made me feel like family. Even though I initially started at their Sydenham branch, I have continued to make the effort to go to their main hub in the city (Woolloomooloo) even though during this time I actually moved further away.

At the end of the day it is a martial art and it comes its own risks, but the team make sure everything we do is in a controlled manner with proper instruction and technique! If you're sitting on the fence and want to try out Brazilian Jiu Jitstu for the first time, or just want to get back into it, I cannot recommend HJJ highly enough. From seasoned veterans to absolute newbies like me, they will cater to all and make everyone feel incredibly welcome to the HJJ family. And there is nothing better than starting your day on the mats where you get to learn new techniques, practice older ones and just get to interact with a whole bunch of legends! 5-stars all around!

Five stars for Higher Jiu Jitsu! Only had a month here and it was my first time learning Jiu Jitsu, everybody was so welcoming and it felt like a family as I attended more and more sessions. John the coach was very friendly and couldn’t have asked for a better introduction from him. Great, friendly place and would recommend to anyone.

John is not just an AMAZING human but equally an AMAZING coach and mentor, he has had a vital role in my sons learning and journey and to train with him and learn through him BJJ is an honour. Awesome place to train! I trained here for about 6 months while I was living in Sydney short term. John and the whole crew were very welcoming and friendly, and taught great Jiu Jitsu in a relaxed environment. Will definitely be stopping by when I am back in town. Oss!

In 5 short months the team at Higher have changed my world. Coming to BJJ as an older beginner I needed a supportive environment both on & off the mats, which is exactly what you get here. Private training sessions have been an awesome way to lift my confidence. Most importantly, coach John makes you feel you are part of something bigger. I started at Higher as a complete beginner about 7 months ago, wanting to try something new but with no idea whether or not I’d enjoy it. I pretty much picked it because the location and timetable worked out for me. I feel like I completely lucked out picking Higher - the coaching team are so supportive and full of energy (even during the 6.30am sessions…) and the other members of the club have been so welcoming. The more I train, the more I love this place. Highly recommend.
