Henry Kendall Cottage & Historical Museum reviews
11This was closed on the day we visited but we still looked at the outside and grounds plus a few outhouses. Peaceful location and lovely historic building.
A great little piece of history hidden in western Gosford. Friendly volunteers with lots of knowledge and a passion for Henry Kendall’s life. Well worth the visit
A part of the cottage is under renovation.
The cottage was the residence of the Australian poet, Henry Kendall…. And the bedroom, kitchen, laundry room etc are on display…. Giving an idea of accommodation conditions of those years.
Besides, the cottage has interesting relics from World War 1 and the past century…. Old music systems including wax records (which played music), vinyl records, old gramophone, old huge radio, typewriters, mechanical calculating machines, mechanical reproduction equipment, cameras, sewing machines, clocks, kettles etc. The collection is displayed well with information about each artefact next to it. Entry ticket for an adult is $5, for students and groups it is much less, and the money thus raised goes towards the upkeep of the cottage and it’s grounds.
We were a group of 4 last Sunday and the volunteer Mr Don made our tour of the cottage very interesting. He did an excellent job of enlightening us about many of the things in the artefacts museum, and the industrial section which houses various tools, axes, citrus sorters, ploughs etc. We could sense the passion he has for his voluntary work. The detailed information he gave tirelessly including about the blacksmith equipment was amazing.
It was very interesting amd the volunteer was very knowledgeable. Telling us lots of interesting facts
Volunteers were very friendly and happy to chat and give us information about all the cool stuff they had. Very interesting to take a look back in local Australian history:)
Serene spot for a picnic and bringing kids to see how their forefathers lived. Bring cash ($5) as there are no card payment facilities. Excellent volunteers.
Needs a bit of updating and clean up.
But instruments, including farm implements from an age past. Worth a quick walk through.
It's a small museum tucked away in a residential street, kid friendly lots of antique objects to see in the main building, with an old house and 2 sheds. Activities for the kids as well
Very helpful staff and otherworldly scenery. A must see for Australian history connoisseurs. The individuals who volunteer to ensure that this piece of history is preserved are worthy of praise.
What an amazing place, so full of history. They have changed the furniture in the Henry Kendall Cottage but it's like going back in time.
Most bizarre experience ever.blond lady w the glasses at the admissions office was talking on the phone (to a friend presumably) and took a very long time to serve us. She charged us $10 as we were a family, and i handed her $50 only to receive $20 in change. When i argued that we needed $40 in change she was still confused and took almost 5 minutes just delivering the right change. Talking on the phone the entire time. Incredibly incredibly rude and lazy service. Really ruined out entire visit. Steer clear.
