Haven Specialty Coffee-Darling Square

A few issues that need attention to lift the experience:
1. Coffees need a bit of work. I ordered a long black and received a watery, under-extracted American.

2. Prices are over the standard for this area and given the quality as described above, not justified. It’s not a speciality coffee venue by any stretch of the imagination. And usually speciality coffee venues are pretty much set on the 4 - 4.5 mark anyway.

3. The staff have some serious old-fashioned gender sensitivity that doesn’t belong. We overheard some nasty stuff the barista was saying to his boys at the counter which made our heads spin.

4. The pleasant female staff could definitely do with better support from management - especially given the above, and the fact that the boys hang out at the machine while the girls run around the tables.

Happy to discuss if you give me a direct line and commit to aligning some of those deficient policies with industry standard. Feels like a VC-backed low input fast growth wannabe.

Bad experience as they don’t offer the menu that is shown on their homepage. We walked 30 minutes to have a decent breakfast but they were offering only pastries. So if you are only interested in pastries this spot might be good…

Great coffee (although I am a mocha drinker, and my coffee opinions are best taken with a grain of salt), and phenomenal kimchi pastry! The seating is quite limited especially during peak hours, but the vibes are quite nice for a solo date or a catch-up with a friend. Wouldn’t recommend going in groups larger than 3.

Oh my this flat white was next level. Will come back to Sydney just for this coffee. Staff were delightful.

Great little spot to get some really decent coffee. Staff were friendly and helpful. I ordered a pour over coffee and they did have lots of different options which they ran me through.

Plenty of bean options for sale too if you'd like to buy some of their beans they use for home.

My current fave cafe in Sydney! It's so cozy in there and there's always a nice vibe. Doesn't hurt that the coffee is great:) Their other branches are good too so definitely pay them a visit but I like the Haymarket branch the most since it's smaller so that adds to the cozy atmosphere.

Love it! Friendly staff and wonderful coffee, particularly the rotating single origin long blacks. I’m a big fan.

Visited everyday during the recent business trip and it did not diss appoint. One of my, if not my favourite, coffee places in Sydney. Coffee was perfect - not bitter, not sour, not overly milky. Beautiful!

I came here for a latte because it had the best reviews in the area I was in. I wasn’t disappointed at all. Unfortunately they don’t have syrups but they make a wonderful latte with honey. Very smooth.

Coffee well-crafted! Cant really say more, lots of coffee shops in the city do good coffee but this is a step above.

Disappointing. Got my order wrong (gave me iced). Coffee beans tasted burnt. Baked cheesecake hardly worth eating. Staff had poor communication.

Where are the old crew? The HongKong gentleman (best barista) and 2 lovely young ladies (both have the best customer service).

Best coffee in Haymarket/Chinatown area. So good I bought beans for home. Cold brew is great - it’s all really good.

I’ve only been to Havens (both surry hill ones and darling square) countable of time. But every time i come here i always get a decent cup of coffee, simply higher quality than coffee shops you can find in Sydney CBD.

Would recommend people who makes their own filter coffee at home to buy some coffee beans here as well. Never get disappointed
