Great Cobar Heritage Centre & Cobar Visitor Information Centre reviews
25A well presented museums showcasing the deep and rich mining history of Cobar. Lots of real artefacts from the past mining and living culture of the town to see and read about. If you’re travelling through Cobar, this is a must.
Seniors price $8. Great museum. (I cannot understand why people pay money and then zip thru the display rooms not reading anything. Oh well.) Very informative displays, and well presented. The women at the front counter were lovely. Head outside and walk down to the mine pond. The colours in the rocks along the way and in the water were lovely.
The lady in the information centre was awesome & very friendly. Her service was outstanding gave me tips on the Australian adventure passport. Thank you
Welcoming staff and interesting exhibits. Beautiful setting. I was there to pick-up a key for sound Chapel and enjoyed the historical walk through.
What a wonderful place to stop, the museum attached was very informative. The staff were great so friendly.
Great local history museum, completely revamped recently and well curated.
We loved the context provided around the artefacts and the interactive part. Well done, Cobar!
Kylie and I had an enjoyable experience learning about the mining history of the Cobsr region.
The information staff were informative and welcoming thank you
Top spot. Great for travellers. The things to see for free are limited but very good. The paid option is worth it. Also excellent toilets. Cobar is a beautiful and friendly town.
We had a great tour from Sam last night at the Museum which was really interesting. There was an event planned and despite the bad weather, it was a huge success with a line out the door! Highly recommend having a look.
Wonderful museum. Lots of local history. Doesn't just tell about mining. Wonderful story about the founders of The Far West Children's Home at Manly. Also wonder story about the travelling out back nurses. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Highly recommend a visit.
Only 1 handicapped parking space (which I need) available and that was being used by a young woman without a handicapped permit delivering some boxes of stuff to the museum. The usual able-bodied attitude of "I won't be long". When I finally got that spot I entered the museum but there was nobody behind the reception area and no info about an entrance fee. I had a quick squiz into one of the display rooms but it seemed to be just photos and story boards. The website mentions oudoor displays of old vehicles and machinery but it was raining and too cold so I didn't bother. It all seemed a bit underwhelming.
Superb Museum showing Cobar' s history. Employed curator has assembled excellent exhibits, photographs and explanations.
Great place for learn the history of the area. Old machinery and view old mine now filled with water, miner's memorial across the road.
We went to heritage centre in mid December (17/12/21) and we were in a bit of a panic due to a lost phone and navigation system. Sam helped us at the desk to connect to free wifi and sort out our situation, as well as personally assist us in navigating flood waters and which route to best take to our destination. She was so helpful and saved the trip for us! Could not more highly recommend this centre for any information about the area and travelling the surrounds, best service we have ever had.
Old lady at reception felt a bit cold at the beginning but ended up giving some good information on Cobar history and the museum. Museum entry is $10 per head. It is a pretty good place to learn Cobar history, in terms of mining, farming, social life etc. Good combination of reading and having actual artifacts from the old time. The building itself was the office for the Great Cobar mine and repurposed as tourist center and museum. It is a pretty good building.
Helpful and courteous lady at the Information Centre gave us maps and all the information we needed to see the highlights of Cobar. Shame the Heritage Centre was under renovation but these things need to be done! Look forward to seeing it on our next visit and hopefully the Grey Mardi Gras too! Enjoyed our stay in Cobar. Thank You.
I think the word "no" is missing from before the word "information" at this centre. But on a holiday filled with new experiences, being yelled at for simply enquiring about mine tours was right up there! Thanks for your complete lack of help. We ended up sorting things out for ourselves. I suggest if you feel there's nothing worth doing in Cobar then the info centre isn't a great work/values match for you.
Sadly had moved into town while the Heritage Building where originally located had maintenance done. So, didn't get to see the museum. The information centre extremely helpful with maps and history.
The lady just give me papers of things to do around. I didn't had a chance to ask any questions. I tought that was very rude. I guess its because I'm foreign because when my husband went inside she give him a lot of information and she took the time. Very sad because we stopped in this town very happy but now im very desapointed.
The young woman who welcomed and assisted us today was terrific. She was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about her town. An asset to Cobar. Well done.
