Fitness Playground Surry Hills reviews
50 Fitness Playground is a haven for the newbie gym goer who would like to improve their fitness and up to the most advanced lifter.
The Surry Hills Fplayground is fully equipped with brand new machinery, multiple lifting racks and 3 floors for both functional fitness and classes like boxing, HIT, Yoga etc. Don't forget to checkout the top floor space, it's captivating! The trainers and community at the gym are amazingly helpful and offer mentoring for upcoming trainers and coaches to expand their knowledge and business.
Shouts go out to Tom Merriman & Matt Duncan for all the help you have offered to me.
Thank you, J. J Simpson
3 floors - plenty of variety in machines,
Interesting, unique and coherent décor.
Nice staff and good vibe
Great range of all new equipment and it always smells good in there. Women’s toilet could use more toilet stalls, not really well designed. Coming from marrickville, the range of classes offered in Surry hills in comparison are poor, although trainers are all great and helpful. Loved the bare classes:)
Heaps of lockers, everything is always cleaned and lighting is well designed and great for getting those gym selfies
I just joined the gym, but I can tell you that their staff are great and the structure is awesome too. All the equipments seem to be new'ish and in perfect condition. The decor is very intriguing too - a bit of a vintage industrial vibe.
I love Fitness Playground! I have been a member for a year and a half and I haven't looked back. They have every piece of training equipment you could ask for and a class to suit any kind of workout you could fathom. The staff are friendly and helpful. And, as a total night owl, my personal favorite is that you can work out any time! I've worked out at many different gyms in many different countries and Fitness Playground has been my favorite by far. The price is a steal for everything you get! Thanks, Fitness Playground staff.:)
Friendly staff, good value, 24 hours, three levels, weights, group class floor, aerobic treadmills bikes, rowing etc
Great staff, well equipped, and has a great atmosphere. It's big and there is always plenty of equipment to use even during peak hour. Highly recommend Fitness Playground whether you're new to the gym, or a seasoned gym-goer.
They did not bill me throughout the lockdowns and gave me full control of when to recommence billing. They are very ethical when it comes to doing business.
At 79 I had never attended a gym. However, my physical condition following recuperation from colon cancer and a hip replacement coupled with my decision to retire prompted me to address fitness issues.
That was four years ago. The Fitness Playground Surry Hills and my personal trainer, Matt Duncan, have supported me through a 2nd hip replacement and a heart attack. Matt amended my 2 day a week training program to match my recuperation from both and in partnership with my GP has monitored all my health issues.
Each December we review my fitness goals for the following year and Matt is amused by my comment that my principal goal is "to live until the following December. " My personal trainer also encouraged me to write my first book, "The Retirement Quilt, " which I completed in 8 months.
To any septuagenarian, I would recommend a training program at Fitness Playground.

I’ve had great experiences with multiple fitness playground gyms, there are so many opportunities to enhance your gym experience from unique classes to great personal trainers. The bunker has a good atmosphere at all times, both when busy and quiet, and doesn’t feel like your normal boring gym, so the motivation to go and work out is heightened. The coaches in and around the gym are always friendly and helpful when needed, and there’s no intimidating feeling like some gyms have. Would 100% recommend.
Avoid this gym. They billed me throughout COVID while the gym was shutdown and would not cancel after multiple attempts and emails. My bank has now blocked them and refunded the fees, and they are still charging despite emails and will not send me a cancellation form. I have now had to raise a consumer complaint with Fair Trading. They just told me they will not cancel until they get fees paid post my cancellation request and during lockdown when the gym was shut! (we are talking like $60-120 here). No service was provided and I provided cancellation in writing multiple times. Super dodgy.
Everything about this gym is amazing, staff super friendly and motivating the sign up was easy, heaps of amazing classes. Let me say gym anxiety is real, but never once being there have I felt judged). 10/10 if you are looking for a gym this is the one.
Terrible business. Debited my card 3 days before lockdown in June for 2 weeks of gym when I couldn't leave the house. Illegal. Now taken more money out to cancel as soon as lockdown lifts. Bad business model if you have to take money from people.
The instructors are at the top of their game - which means you’ll get the best personal training and fitness classes available. Long term members and a buzzy atmosphere. Best gym in Sydney
Having been at the gym for approximately 3 years there is a high level of professionalism with instruction. The facilities show a standard that is hard to beat with state of the art machines and a decor to work in that is edgy and has an industrial city vibe. Excellent!
Great quality service and facilities. Really about the education and habit change, rather than looking like they're doing things. Results don't lie
Great staff and gym members, everyone's super kind and smiling - keep it up!
ps: open up in Bondi asap please ;)
The gym is amazing so are the PT's. We loved our time at Surry Hills, unfortunately work + apartment has taken us further away. We are unhappy and sad we have to leave, especially with our PT Chris who is an absolute super star. His the best PT I have ever worked with. I love how FP continued to educate all their staff, it really shows that you aren't just a gym to make money. Your training the best to train and apply the best programs to your customers. I hope in the future I can come back, hopefully my next job will be in the city, I'll be then resigning up and locking in Chris.
I trained at fitness playground Surry Hills for about a year (and Fitness Playground Newtown for 7 months before that) and loved my time while being there. When the pandemic happened I decided to suspend my membership and had some issues getting through with the staff. However, Julian, the Surry Hills manager is lovely and was eventually able to help. This will definitely help me remember my experience with Fitness Playground in a more positive light.
Great culture! Instructors and gymgoers interact all the time. Classes are challenging and fun at the same time. Now I am stronger and have more friends all because of FP. It does feel like a true playground for fitness enthusiasts:)
