Dr Toohey Patrick reviews
37I am a Veteran who was referred this practice by Open Arms Counselling under the guidance that the practice was a DVA white card approved practitioner, I sent my GP's referral to the practice and followed up after a week or so of hearing nothing after submission. Once they had found my referral and said they would be in touch in which I waited another week, I called today for them to tell me they are not taking in any white card patients (Obviously because they cant charge as much as a private client), they then told me that they had told DVA (Also not the organisation related to this) that they will not see anymore veterans under this scheme. I asked when they were going to have told me this knowing the first interaction with them I had said I was a DVA white card holder. I asked why wouldn't they have told me then and her response what "Yeah, sorry about that, we did tell DVA". I get a sick feeling when I think about my fellow defence members who have taken their lives because of the help they cannot get and this is a perfect example of a failed system and practitioner's business model who has more greed then capability. I hope someone reading this truly reconsiders this practice.
Called them because my GP referred me to them. The receptionist is a racist, claiming he can't understand even though I'm speaking English clearly. He suggested me get someone who speaks my native language and I was seriously offended. Very bad attitude. If you are not white I don't suggest you going there.
If you want to pay someone to torment yourself, contact me instead of this man as I only charge half of his price
I have just made follow up call to Dr Toohey Patrick to see whether or not I can make an appoinment, all i wanted to know yes or no coz i have called last week and i was advised to give referral letter and I did so but the receptionist namely Phillip was so rude, i really dont undertsand how this kind of person working and assisting with psychiatrist Dr whereas patient is already going through a lot
Dr Toohey has a problem dealing with sexual assaults victims. His standard line is to tell them that he cannot help them. The RANZCP and the health complaints authority would do well to take a closer look at dr Toohey's general level of competence before he continues on doing ongoing damage to vulnerable people.
Dr. Toohey has been a wealth of knowledge and helpful guide as I have travelled through the anxieties of COVID-19. Very grateful for his help. He is a skilled helper. He has gone above and beyond to help me even outside work hours.
Dr Toohey tried to make me pay him with physical cash eventhough the sessions were bulk billed, he stood in the exit way blocking all attempts of me leaving, his excuse for this was "the rent is expensive"
Avoid at all costs, absolutely unprofessional! I feel sorry for people who have had the displeasure of seeing this psychiatrist. Better to wait for a recognised professional psychiatrist that go through the trauma of seeing this person.
I was told to find a younger practitioner because he is retiring and he doesn't want to listen to my issues. Waste of time!
Dropped after a couple of appointments. Looked like he did not want to be there - Looked bored to death, made fun of me and cut the conversation short after 5 min - At least, he did not charge me for it!
All of the reviews on here are true, avoid at all costs don’t waste your time like I did. Actually ended our last session myself due to complete lack of professionalism and rudeness. Never experienced this in my life
Horrible doctor! I obviously did my own research and was prompted my childs Paedtrician to look into getting a diagnosis of ADHD, I completed the WHO (WOrld Health Organization) questtionaire and came into the meeting well prepared. I felt like he took this as an insult that I researched this and completled the the quesstionaire. He then proceeded to want to see me on a weekly basis without giving me a diagnosis.at one stage he said that I was bipolar.which if I felt that I was biploar than I would have accepted this diagnosis and looked at strategies to work with my supposed bipolar.but I was not biploar, I knew that! I wont lie it scared me a little but I went home and researched it and I just did not have the symtoms that go with Adhd, maybe 1 thing sprung out but I knew that I was not. I also work in Mental health and Alcohol and Drugs addiction so I am familiar with mental health - he came up with every other diagnosis for me than what I was looking for. Although he it was bulk billed - I am not sure if he just makes a tonne of money buy getting someone in weekly - I dont know. By the end of the 6 sessions which by the third I really should have dropped him I left w no diagnosis and was ridoculed throughout these sessions about my past trauma, my current trauma, my anxiety and was told on numerous occassions that he had so many years of exp and that I should meditate (which I do and told him that) I also told him that I excercise and that I see a therpist.my only issue was getting a diagnosis so that I can start to fullfill my life in the way that I really wanted. So no diagnosis at all, a lot of assumptions, lots of ridicule and condensending behaviour.this was last year, I have now gone to see a a much better psychatrist who deals specifically with ADHD, that I had taken my questtionaire to him which he was incredibly happy that I researched and did a lot of the work for him, he empathised with my trauma, spoke in length about my history and linking them to ADHD and diagnosed me with this and as I had already been previously diagnosed with PTSD and Anxiety in which he verified that.
I can see that there are some reviews that have given him 5 stars but I can see that there are more on the 1 star. I think if you can find another Psychiatrist than definetly go towards that, because the way that I see it its not even a 50/50 and why risk your own MH if he is going to make you feel worse walking out of there. Not worth it. It took me a while to get over this guy.
Hope this helps anyone that is looking for a diagnosis and help, good luck
The receptionist there looks like himself mental patient. I couldn't even get through to make an appointment, their phone never answers, if I end up seeing dr will write more but no reply to faxed one week ago referral.
Refused to listen to what I had to say. He would only accept short answers to his questions, and wouldn't allow me to talk further or even get into the issues I was there to try to address. He also made jokes at my expense during the session, which is absolutely not on.
People seem to have pretty varied experienced with Dr. Toohey. If this is how you think a mental health professional should act, then I encourage you to look elsewhere.
The appointment started on scheduled time. Dr Patrick listened to my history with patience. He was polite and professional throughout the meeting. No reason to complain really.
A joke of a psychiatrist and the receptionist is no better either.
If they wanted to run a business, might as well studied a commerce degree rather than ripping off people with mental health issues.
Dr Toohey is brilliant. I saw him about a very specific issue and he was warm, friendly and empathetic. Most importantly he "got it. " I've been trying to find someone to assist in the issue of gender dysphoria for a year, and been shunted from pillar to post. Some doctors are judgemental, some are naive and don't feel qualified in that area and many don't trust you know who you are. Dr Toohey was the opposite of that. I felt safe and validated, but also assured that someone with knowledge in this field was unpacking it with me, and exploring everything to consider before I took the next step. For the LGBTIQ community it is not always safe to go to any old psychiatrist out there. This man is fantastic, if you are queer go see him.
Arrogant fool thinks he knows more than anyone who enters his lair.
Dude needs to take a good look at himself in the mirror.
My advice.seek another, proper health care professional.
I was going to see him but the reviews have turned me off, Think I'll give him a miss and look for someone that has a better attitude plus a caring person is what I and others need
If you need long time care-don’t bother.rang and said I was with someone else who I had never even heard of&assumes he is correct and offered no help whatsoever and continued to say “you need long time help and I won’t be here for long”asked me no questions of what I need except to ask if I was a “druggie”! WHAT? I found him Extremely judgemental arrogant and rude.apparently I don’t seem to be the only one.
