Douglas Vale Historic Homestead & Vineyard reviews
36Port Macquarie, Wauchope RSL Pipes and Drums played there today at a lovely Australia day lovely scones and a great sausage sizzle a wonderful group of volunteers. Tbsnl you to all volunteers. Yours Jenny McKenzie.
This place is very interesting, run by volunteers, it’s well worth the visit, all volunteers are very friendly and knowledgeable. Robert was excellent, we did a wine tasting and he had all the information you need … Thank You
It's run by volunteers which are passionate about preserving the local history. If they had more commercialised operations e.g. A cantina or cafe setup I am certain they would get a lot more foot traffic. It's a nice spot for some wine tasting, a picnic (cheese platter and wine by the glass and bottle can be purchased) and learning about the history of the area. When I visited there was a band playing which was a super chill way to enjoy wine tasting. The kids were given colouring sheets while the grown-ups sipped.
The volunteers are lovely, very friendly.
It has vibes of a veggie co-op with attached vineyard and historical house. Free entry.
Spent Mothers Day with our family here. The grounds are so beautifully maintained, the vines, the vege garden, the fruit trees, the small oasis with the pond, the homestead. This is definitely a must if you are a local or a visitor. Take a picnic with you and just relax.
Tours & Wine Tasting, Saturday -Sunday & Wednesday 10am to 3pm, 235 Oxley Highway Port Macquarie NSW. Dates back to 1859 and runs by volunteers that do a marvellous job keeping our history alive & keeping it maintained, thankyou.
Loved this place.it us run by veterans & they volunteer.
I recommend this place & some of the best local wines.
Had a wonderful Australia day there. Great wine tasting, music and such friendly volunteers. The cottage is delightful.
Beautiful little place, run by volunteers. Was given a guided tour by Graham - he was lovely.
Lots of history and wine tasting is free.
Thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would definitely recommend
Great community run wine estate. Lovely museum and grounds. Knowledgable tour guide and free wine tasting. They also sell their wines and some plants from the onsite nursery. Totally run by volunteers. No charge to visit.
A must see Port Macquarie experience. This truly remarkable enterprise gives the visitor a real view of old Port Macquarie. The community trust that runs the winery are lovely, informative and enthusiastic and you can have a little wine tasting after all the history
Always lovely to pop in and pick up a bottle of Port, great atmosphere with homestead and vineyard
Lovely place to visit, great to learn about the family story, the old buildings, and we enjoyed a delicious lunch of home-made wine and a cheese platter.
Awesome historical vineyard run by volunteers, really enjoyed the wine tasting and had to buy a few bottles.
We had a lovely time at Douglas Vale. Volunteer staff and tour guide were excellent. Bought some nice wines. Will visit again next visit
Spent a lovely morning with my daughter and grandbaby, listening to locals telling poetry, good laughs and memories made beautiful!
Port Macquaries best kept secret, what a fantastic place run by volunteers. Amazing history and tasty wine if you're so inclined.
Interesting history of the local area and the vineyard contained in the homestead, so do spend some time there before heading to the tasting area. Entirely run by volunteers, it's great to see so many people engaged in a community project. Wine tasting included all the table and fortified wines they produce and I was very happy to support this great venture.
Great place for wine tasting and picnic.
Family friendly.
Opened Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.
100% runs by volunteers
Stay away. It would be worth a visit as it is worth seeing, but you had better be ready for zealous sales staff. First they give you a great history of the place, but they are lying in waiting to make you feel obliged to pay for it. Then when you order wine from the list (in my case for $18.00) they overcharge you (in my case $22.00) and the wine was not worth anything like that.
Great place to visit. Picnic area free wine tasting. Great band cheap to buy wine. Great relaxing day out
