Dawn Fraser Baths reviews
35Beautiful harbour pool with fantastic views of the city and waterfront. Spotless showers and toilets. There's a shop for refreshments after your swim.
Living in Balmain last Summer, these baths saved me from driving and parking at the beach. There is waterpolo on most weekends but still plenty of space to swim if you don't mind a bit of noise and commotion.
I LOVE DAWNIES- i go here every week in the summer its so fun although that one blonde old lifeguard is rlly mean and annoying
Dawn Fraser Baths was closed for winter! It still looked beautiful
Dawn Fraser Swimming Pool is a heritage-listed swimming baths complex at Glassop Street, Balmain, Inner West Council, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It was built by 1882 by James Reynolds, with alterations when it was enlarged in 1924. It is also known as Elkington Park Baths, Balmain Baths, Corporation Baths, Dawn Fraser Baths and Whitehorse Point Baths. The property is owned by the Inner West Council. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 23 June 2000
A great place for a swim, either laps or recreation. The facilities are new and great. Bring your own food as they only sell pies/sausage rolls if you're lucky. Otherwise, it's a top spot.
Simply love this. First of all because it's in walking distance. There is room to excersise, and also a little beach for the little one. Perfect to quickly cool of after a hot day.
Very dirty poor safety standards swimmers exited water covered in engine oil zero services dirty bathrooms great location if you want to get gastro do not recommend
Lovely place to go for a swim, not too packed, nice and clean bathroom and showers, and we were able to get some shade.
Great local tidal pool. A bit of shade but not much. Lil shallow beach, stair and ladder entry and sometimes you can catch a water polo game! Can bring in picnic items and little shop as well! Nice to cool off on a hot day.
My opinion is a little small.i don't know a week day but holiday to much people and few space for children's play.
Great place and convenient to go when you don’t want to drive to the beach but the water is pretty dirty. Probably not going back because of it.
Family oriented place.
Fantastic place to come for a swim. My favourite times are school hours so that I miss all the rabble, cos the place is truly something else when it's peaceful and tranquil. There are so many areas you can lay, whether the shade or the sun. The walls around the pool are great because if there's a bit of wind you're going to be entirely sheltered in there. They've also got a little tuckshop if you need a packet of chips or a coffee to tie you over - but there are also some wonderful cafe's up the hill if you want something substantial.
If you want to do some laps there's also a sectioned off area where you can, and the rest of the place is an open zone. If you're scared of fish or jelly blubbers then maybe stick to an enclosed pool or learn to conquer that because this place has all sorts of sea life swimming through.
I don't mind the payment fee of entry as it's so small, but I think where this place truly loses a star for me was a negative experience I had recently with one of the lifeguards. Some grotty highschool kids were there and started picking the jelly blubbers out of the water and started pelting them at each other, throwing them outside the water. When I spoke to one of the guards about it he simply dismissed it on the fact that he said he used to do the same thing when he was younger. Honestly it was really disgusting. Such a defensive and dismissive attitude towards destructive behaviour towards sea life, of whose environment we inhabit by swimming in the ocean, is unacceptable, especially from someone like a lifeguard who should care about sea creatures.
There's also the fact that if you do go when there are even one loud group, EVERYONE is going to know about it, as due to the walls and pavement, the noise WILL echo a lot.
I did not realise why this place is called Baths until I saw how many people were playing, walking, floating and swimming in the sea. I doubt if they really monitor the pollutants in the water.
Great place for a swim. Facilities are clean and there are lifesavers. Free entry if you are a fitness passport member. Something to be mindful of is that since it is a harbour pool, there are marine life swimming in the baths including jellyfish, fish and sting rays.
Almost always fantastic. Bit more expensive than it used to be, but the changerooms are now fantastic. Good water pressure, decent hot water. Non slip tiles. Sydney Harbour is as good as ever and no reduction in the number of leathery pensioners with crusts (for feeding the fish). Overall, an easy and very convenient way to get your seawater fix without having to deal with either Eastern Suburbs people or the shire.
This was on my bucket list, and I was not disappointed. The historic Dawn Fraser Baths. It is technically a river baths, which has been enclosed. The facility, after its recent upgrade, looks amazing. The staff were very friendly. Loved having the place to myself. Well worth a visit.
Somewhat difficult for people with movement issues, although I did not go to the stated mobility entrance. An historical seawater pool on Sydney Harbour.
The water was cooling but a bit murky, staff were nice and helpful. Baths looks great after its makeover.
Amazing place to spend a warm, sunny day. The entire is very spacious and clean. Decent showers and change rooms for everyone as well (male, female, unisex, family)
There's a small patch of sand for a beach-y, free swim. They also have a lap area with 4-5 lanes. There were some jellyfish around in the lap area, so just be careful.
The ladders and planks can be slippery too but nothing too dangerous.
The one star is for IWC's failure to renovate this pool to schedule, and communicate clearly with the community.
When will this pool open? It's one of the great bureaucratic mysteries as to what happened with the project management of the restoration. And now all opening dates have been deleted off the IWC site!
Please open soon! We are begging you!
