China Lane

Dinner at China Lane while in Sydney last week. Been a few years since I last dined here and still serving some amazing food. The Pork Belly is sensational. A must try if you’re visiting Sydney CBD.

The food was amazing, we sat outside in beautiful weather. The staff were also lovely. Will be back for sure.

China Lane’s food and service was amazing! I’d recommend them 100%. We had our anniversary dinner there and we couldn’t of been happier, food was delicious.

We had the set menu with a large group. The highlight was the pork belly. The others were mediocre. While everything was fairly executed and quite tasty, it lacked creativity and depth to deliver a honest reflection of the cuisine of the dish. Maybe showcasing more traditional dishes or going deeper and heavier on the spice or base flavours would set this fusion restaurant apart of the multitude like it throughout the cbd. Overall a pleasant experience but not a memorable one.

We ordered the banquet option at China Lane. Overall the food was good, but nothing mind blowing and a bit on the salty side. They also miscalculated the cost of our drinks, but fixed up their mistake quickly once we pointed that out. The lychee gin cocktail was the highlight of the night, yummy and went well with the food.

We had the banquet and they agreed to make some changes to accommodate some dietary requirements that we had.

The food was simply fantastic. The atmosphere was great and the service was awesome.

The flavours were out of this world

I hope to visit again.

We decided to give this a go as my friend is vegetarian and had heard the veggie options were plentiful. They didn't disappoint! The veggie dumplings were the best I've ever had, and the tofu mains also delicious. We decided on dessert and the portions were so generous we left absolutely stuffed. Try the ginger and fig pudding! Lovely staff and a nice ambience to the place.

Had the special duck pancakes that were fried with sesame seeds, was good but not as good as traditional duck pancakes. Top dish was the John Dory, everyone loved. Whiting also excellent. Asian greens were pleasant. Was excited for the eggplant which is one of my favourites at Malaya and Mr Wong. This version was good, but not great like the others. Was busy and staff were polite but seemed understaffed as we had to ask for one of our orders which started coming out before the rice. Was quite noisy as so busy, would opt for outside of the weather suits if it is busy.

Fantastic dishes here and quality is consistent. The caramelised pork belly is delicious, no wonder it's so popular. Loved the Wagyu beef Massaman Curry, which melts in your mouth! The crispy pig's ears salad is beautiful. First time I went here with a friend, we had the set menu and everything on the menu was scrumptious!

OMG we went here for dinner last night. The food was exceptional, quick to arrive and really decent serves. The cocktails were spot on. We loved it and will go again.

Deducted stars for the way I was asked to give a tip by the waiter. Left a bad taste after an excellent evening and good food. The mechanism is better suited for other places. Increase the prices transparently if the current prices aren't covering your costs.

NEVER CELEBRATE YOUR PARTY HERE!

One star to appreciate the nice food.

But, MINUS for THE SERVICE.

First, they double our order. She put 18 dishes for 8ppl, when we just ordered one each of 9 different dishes (not included drinks).

Second, they forgot one of our order. We asked for it, then she said the kitchen already closed (she never mention about the kitchen already close or asking for last order before). But then they brought the food, two servesss. When we already clearly said at the first time they brought the food out, we just ordered one each. And, the staff very arrogantly said “now everything ok right? ” while serving us the food.
We’re still fine even after had this kind of treatment from all the rude staffs there, plus the last food came out so late.

This is not all yet, The WORST one when we asked the staff to help serve the birthday cake after our dinner, but they just give the cake that is still IN THE BAG. We already put the candles and lighter inside, we are not even asking candles from them or borrow their lighter. I think its a very difficult request for them.

Then, the manager blame the new staff for the situation and not even say sorry at all.

At the end, they still charge one of the food double, PLEASE CHECK YOUR RECEIPT WHEN YOU PAY THERE.

I think they are not even ready to receive simple request. They are very lack of hospitality attitude and common sense:)

Never bring your friend for birthday party here!

We had bookings for 8 people, and in the end the staff just handle the cake without being served, she hand over the cake to us as it is, inside the bag and the box instead being served for surprise as dessert.
Not only that, she decide herself to doubled our menu while we clearly ordered single portion. We ordered 9 items (not saying about the drinks). Dont you think 18 orders for 8 people is make sense? After that, so many errors occurred.
To make it worse, the manager is blaming the new staff and lack of training instead saying sorry. That new staff is the manager responsibility.

Never had such a bad experience before. Only in this restaurant.

The lady doesn’t know how to take order. We order 1 served of each dish and she just doubled the order without asking. Almost get 18 dish for 8 people instead of 9 dish. How can she even think that’s possible? So sad I can’t even get to know what her name is. She is so unprofessional to work in a good restaurant with a good food. Feel bad for the chef?
She also has no knowledge about birthday party celebration. We gave them the cake with a candle inside just to hope that they can put the candle on the cake. Instead, she is just hand it over with a cake inside the box in a bag and say “is everything okay? ” C’mon! Do you think that’s okay? We would not give the cake to you if you return it back as it is. We can just keep the cake with us. No common sense at all.
Will never come back to this restaurant

Amazing food and great service. Couldn’t fault a thing! Regular favourite spot for business lunches

Our group arrived on time and we were aware we had a 2 hour window to eat. During dessert (which was late coming out) I was asked to settle the bill. Without telling me they added a 10% service charge and asked me if I wanted to leave a tip. I added an additional 10%. I certainly would not have done this had I known a service charge had already been added. My request for a refund on the double tip has been ignored.

As soon as the bill was paid, the staff were rudely insistent that we leave (even though people were still eating) because the next booking had arrived. Some of us were still eating. Everyone was upset by this.

Will never go here again.

My loved the food and if you really think it is if you consider the when it did. My food was about 4 out of 10 if i had to. Staff were really attractive aswell #sexystaffsexyfood
