Chedi Thai

We are visiting the Sydney area for a few days from Texas. We decided to stay in Lavender Bay to get more of the neighborhood experience. We stopped at a local Thai restaurant called Chedi Thai. As it happened, we met the owner, a really nice gentleman named Greg. We enjoyed a really great meal and a chance to chat with Greg.

We enjoyed our dinner experience so much, we went back again a couple of days later. The food was exceptional. The service was spot on. We even had a chance to meet some of the neighborhood residents who frequent the restaurant.

What a great experience we had. If we make it back to Sydney someday, we will certainly make a point of having dinner at Chedi Thai. We highly recommend this place.

Our party arrived first and ate last. The host dictated what we should order to make life easier for his chef, confused us all in the process and had us unsure of the restaurant "rules". Took 45 mins just to get the food ordered and in the kitchen. He was also very controlling over his staff. We waited 1.5 hours for our food which was tasty but very overpriced. Won't be returning.

Have been eating here since moving to North Sydney almost 3 years ago. Every meal we have tried is exceptional and there is nothing on the menu we’ve had that is not delicious. A modern twist and flavours combined with exceptional service- Chedi is a go to for any occasion and Greg and his wonderful team will ensure you are well looked after. An overall great dining experience and we look forward to our regular date nights at Chedi. Thank you team!

Nice ambience, nice cosy place and best Thai food. Good for friends and family Near to harbour.

Place was packed, and the food was a bit slow to come out (however, we were warned about this in advance - thanks!). Nevertheless, it was worth the wait, and the service was fantastic. Definitely will be back.

Just tried this place tonight - Absolutely love it and definitely coming back soon! Had the chicken veggie stir fry w garlic pepper - was so tasty and succulent (but not heavy like many commercial Thai places that rely too much on sickly sweet sauces). All the entrees were good. I ate it so excitedly I didn’t get to take photos.

Staff and Greg were all so great! The atmosphere is nice too. Well done…

Disappointing.
Sat down and ordered satay skewers and 2 basic mains, a curry and a crab fried rice, both on their signature dish menu.
Very long wait time, I feel they forgot our order as 3 tables had arrived after us, ordered
After us and they had their bill paid before our mains had even arrived.have been stitched up paying $32 for essentially a bowl of fried rice. Obviously you don’t expect much crab for the price but there wasn’t any at all. I could only find remnants of a fried egg as pictured.
Menu description needs to be edited to not deceit. Maybe I just got a bad batch as my friends curry was decent.
Overpriced but I suppose mcmahons tax so normal for the area we live in.

Third visit and will return.
The host and staff welcoming and engaged without being invasive.
The cuisine is authentic, fresh, absolutely delicious, sensible portions, and very reasonable. The mango/prawn salad a standout!

We’ve been getting Greg’s Thai for years and love it. Have referred so many people who also love the food. Service always good, flavour always there.

We tried duck noodles and crab meat rice as a takeaway. Duck noodles were fine, but the crab meat rice was a joke. It was a simple rice with some fried eggs in it. No trace of crab meat was found. That rice costs $26 to me but it was a $5 rice

The food is overpriced to what you get! Everyone in the restaurant is nice but you get better thai food in Sydney anywhere.

Best Thai is the area by far. Greg and his family do a fantastic job of offering authentic Thai food paired with great service. Always a pleasure to go there.

My normal Thai restaurant had relocated and I’ve had no luck
finding another that comes close.

This one was terrible had the tasteless chicken satays and tried a mouthful of chilli noodles with roast duck, spat it out and all went in the bin such a waste of $95 really shouldn’t have an Australian running a Thai restaurant.
No second chance from me.

I’ve corrected what we had, still tasteless.

The fact is it was tasteless, the fact is I will not waste my money again and the fact is I wouldn’t recommend anyone to try it!

If you're craving for Thai then you should definitely come to this place! Our party of 4 made a last minute booking for a Saturday night dinner and I must say, the wait was totally worth it! Even our two picky little eaters definitely enjoyed their meals.

The atmosphere here is classy and relaxed. Food and service was most excellent. Each of the very tasty dishes we ordered had generous portions and gorgeous presentations.

We enjoyed talking with the owners before and after the meal and the staff were really polite and friendly.

Absolute gem. Authentic Thai food served in an elegant setting by professional and friendly staff.

I frequent this restaurant at least once a week for the dining experience and take away/home delivery and it’s not hard to see why. The interior has a lovely feel to it with mood lighting and spacious surroundings. There is a variety of dishes to choose from and rest assured their food is always fresh. I pester them constantly for my favourite dish and they’re always obliging. The owners are lovely and are always interested in their patrons, you’ll always see ‘Greg’ in particular striking up conversations and laughing along merrily, he’s quick witted and has a great sense of humour. Expect the best!

Great family run restaurant with lovely Thai food. The owner, Greg, is very attentive and always remembers repeat customers. They just need to polish up on the service. It is a long time between courses.

I have dined there many times over last few years.
The food is consistently good and I found the owner Greg to be an interesting character.
It’s as good as it gets without visiting Thailand.

The owner made racist remarks the two times I’ve been there, making everyone I was with really uncomfortable. He would ask about my heritage and be disappointed when I couldn’t “speak [my] own language”. Tonight he asked, “You have a Thai accent, are you Thai? ” — I’m Australian and I shouldn’t have to justify it.

There is a big difference between being interested in someone’s culture and being racist. Assuming I speak another language fluently (and telling me it’s a shame that I can’t) or assuming I grew up in a different country despite me saying “I’m Australian and I grew up in Sydney” is not okay.

The other staff are so incredibly lovely though which makes it such a difficult choice to leave a bad review.

Good staff and delivery service. Food was quite average tasting and lacked flavour and taste. I eat a LOT of Thai food and I know what good flavourful Thai food is. This food was not bad at all but can be better.
