Cathedral Rock National Park reviews
31We were going to go for a walk but found it very dry. We started but stopped as the levels were too hard for us. I am adding the photo of the different levels.
Amazing experience. Sign posting could be a little better but otherwise fantastic! We are a couple of active 60somethings. Not well experienced but managed the climb to the top well. Make sure you have good walking shoes and water! Well worth the effort!
This national park is a bit off the road and a bit out of the way. But it's a beauty, the landscape is unlike anything I have seen in Australia. Large boulders are scattered into a wet land and a forest. Nature is pristine and well preserved. We saw a few wild cangoroo as well.
I didn't quite make it to the top, very hard climb, suggest not to do alone, if doing the top. Other than that still an interesting walk, nice tracks, huge boulders, moss and fungi.
A remarkable place to see stacked boulders. You'll end up with rocks in your head, if you come here. (Beware of Dad joke!)
The park is still in rebuild and recovery from the fires, but still displays great scenery and diversity. The Woolpack Rocks walk is a must.
Beautiful to visit, maintenance is ongoing, it has descriptive signs in regards to the area and the different walks ie how far is the walk and the difficulty levels, has good phone reception
26/12/21- The walk from the parking area is closed for construction. Unfortunately, got to know after driving place. Proabbly would be better place if could have got a chance to see the place.
Temporarily closed (visited on 26 december 2021)
Drove to the Cathedral Rock camping parking to begin the walk towards the cathedral rock trail. Upon arrival, the pathway was temporarily closed due to unable to finish the return track maintenance work because of the wet weather conditions.
At least 15-18 kms off road from B78.
Didnt actually get to do the Cathedral Rock Track (5.8km circuit, approx 2-2.5 hours) ; however I assume it is amazing. All walks were closed for maintenance.
Would have been great if the National Park team could have notified that all walks were closed at the main entrance.
Drive from main entrance is on dirt track/gravel and passing by cute cows.
Would love to check it out next time - better signage would be appreciated
What an epic spot!
The last 500m or so of the walk can be difficult and requires some creative navigation between some big boulders but it is worth it
Check out my youtube channel to see what I mean about the last 500m:)
I've done many walks like cathedral rocks with large granite boulders but this walk is special. Starting with a cool windy path through a lush forest running opposite tranquil streams, it soon turns to a climb that is challenging but rewarding, ending with a lovely panoramic view of the landscape.
Do not bother. This dusty road leads to a private property at the end, so you won't see anything.
Fantastic. Had a great time climbing and sharing the day with my daughter, sister and niece. I didn't make it right to the top as I am scared of heights but other than that it was a fantastic day.
A beautiful place to visit if you going to Armidale area. We spent a half a day with 3 children. Grade 5 track has few steep places to pass through. Has to be very careful with children if you planing to go top of the rocks.
Really nice National Park, good camping facilities, clean long drop, fire wood and pits with cooking plates. The walk to the rocks summit for sunrise is well worth it and recommended. The path is easy going until the last scramble up the rocks which involves pulling yourself up chains. The view and sunrise well worth it. Sadly due to bushfire damage not all walks currently open meaning probably not worth a long stay. Great to see and well done national parks for all the repairs under way.
Fantastic walking with kids! It gets a little exposed near the top of Cathedral Rock so take care. Woolpack Rocks is also worth a visit!
Great place to chill and reset yourself. Beautiful walking trail and the nest at the crest is the best.
What a stunning place. The summit loop track is very accessible (grade 3 walk, although officially grade 4). Still significant fire damage along the way in June 2020. The grade 5 climb to the summit is not for the faint-hearted! It starts simply with a fairly steep ascent up to the base of the rocks. There are many places where you need to squeeze through crevices, jump over decent drops, and clamber up step rocks. There is one chain to assist in the final ascent to the 1500m summit. Spectacular views of Round Mountain radar station and the surrounding areas.
Stunning vistas from the top. Quite a hard climb towards the top. Be very careful with children.
