In 2019 I found myself without a place to stay & in need of support after a domestic incident. The lovely staff at Carrie's Place were able to fit me into an emergency appointment & help me access crisis payments through Centrelink so I could book a hotel room for a few nights until a more suitable arrangement could be made.

Just talking to someone helped me see a little more clearly, & being able to sit on a comfy chair & have a cold drink of water & breathe for a while without being scared was immensely helpful.

The service they provide is incredible. I genuinely wish they didn't exist because they didn't need to, but because they are necessary I am glad that they are there to help people in need.

Approached Carries Place for homelessness support. They assigned a case manager, tried to negotiate with DCJ to lift my linktohome block. Support was quite limited. They prefer to do appointments via phone and when attending office I've only spoken through the intercom or seen on the porch outside so there is little in the way of privacy. Case support terminated within 3 weeks as I mentioned I have to travel back to Qld to obtain a copy of my licence and similarly when I travelled to Blue Mountains to camp for the week as my rego had expired I was told I had to come back to the area for support because going to camp in the forest for a week apparently constitutes moving and permanently living out of area. Feels like because I have dogs I am in the too hard basket. Was told I have to come back in case they find emergency accommodation but in the same conversation told there is nearly no chance of getting emergency accommodation with my dogs.
Might be ok for women in DV situations or single homeless men but if you have pets its futile to ask for help beyond basic immediate needs like food, phone credit and information or referrals to services.
