Blue Mountains Climbing School

My teenage boys (13 & 15) are avid indoor rock climbers and wanted to have their first outdoor climbing experience. I organised a private guided tour with Blue Mountains Climbing School where they were collected and taken out to do their first multi-pitch climb. I can't rate Blue Mountains Climbing School highly enough. From first contact, Bridie 'moved mountains' for us to get the boys matched with the perfect guide so they could have an incredible first outdoor climbing experience. They were matched with Hugh Ward and he couldn't have been a more perfect fit for the boys.and for me, making me feel totally comfortable in knowing that my boys were in safe hands. After the climb, Hugh even sent me a tonne pf photos and videos of the boys climbing which was just above and beyond all expectations.memories we'll have forever. Since returning from their climb, the boys have been speaking non-stop about how knowledgeable and amazing Hugh was and how much they learnt from him and how much they loved outdoor climbing with him. They now want to travel to the Blue Mountains regularly from Sydney to go climbing with Hugh (and the rest of the Blue Mountains Climbing School team). It was an incredible experience from start to end and I'm so grateful to Bridie and Hugh for such an unbelievable experience all 'round. I cannot rate Blue Mountains Climbing School highly enough.

Completed the Introduction to Climbing Outdoors instructed by Hugh. The day was tailored to give us the best possible experience, everything was quality from the equipment, to the instruction and safety.

Highly recommended, but a warning - it may get you hooked on climbing!

I had the privilege of taking the Multi-Pitch Course, guided by Justine, also known as JJ. She did an excellent job in creating a balanced mix of practical experience, theory, and safety, making sure we all felt thoroughly prepared for multi-pitch climbing.

JJ's extensive knowledge of the local area was also invaluable, as she offered fantastic recommendations for my future trips to the Blue Mountains.

Definitely recommend giving this school a go if you're looking to improve your knowledge of climbing.

An excellent school, did their multi pitch course followed by their trad course a year later. The school has excellent instructors who tailor lessons to maximise your climbing experience of the beautiful Blue Mountains. During the trad course, our instructor Ange was really encouraging and knowledgeable, and made us feel safe doing trad - something I thought I'd never have the guts to do!

We did a 3 day intro to Rock Climbing course with our family - 2 Adults and 5 kids. Really impressed with the Instructors Sammy, Justine and Declan. Fantastic Instruction and achieved climbs that I would not have thought possible - all the while feeling very safe. Highly recommended!

Our group of friends has recently completed a bespoke abseiling course with the BMCS and we had a great time. Our instructor Bridie was very knowledgeable, great teacher, attentive to safety and enthusiastic. There is plenty of experiential learning and opportunities to practice outdoors. It was my 3rd time learning with the school and I will definitely be back.

I was recently taken climbing on ‘sweet dreams’ by the blue mountains climbing school today. Had a wonderful time, felt very safe and supported as i made my way up the climb. The views were spectacular and Hugh was amazing instructor.couldn’t reccomend more!

I highly recommend the Introduction to Navigation at Blue Mountains Climbing School. I went into the weekend not knowing how to interpret a map, understand how to read the key provided on maps and then cross reference this with the icons on a map or use a compass.

I came away from the weekend with an understanding of navigation, I can now use a compass and I feel confident going on hikes and using a map to navigate.

I wish I did this earlier! Caro is a wonderful teacher, her patience and passion for helping others learn bush skills is evident. I am very grateful for her expertise and for igniting a love of maps within me.

Instructor Hugh Ward is an all-round Legend! Lots of passion for his craft, knowledge and banter when the situation requires it. I came out of the 3rd day with nothing more than fulfilment and a renewed drive to pursue more canyoneering. I would recommend the school to anyone that is after an opportunity to grow their abilities and confidence. Shout out to Kendra that made logistics & planning super easy!

Mika is a highly experienced and articulate guide! Clearly demonstrated and explained how to belay safely - had a great experience with them:)!

We did the introduction course with Justin. It was a great day getting familiar with what climbing outdoor is as you get all the day in the rock: playing with gear, doing routes for every level and get the chance to actually experience climbing in the blue Mountains. On the top of that, Justin create a very chill and relaxed environment. She made teaching felt natural while she was all time making sure we were safe and confortable with what we were doing. Really recommend as a first go into rock climbing! The gourmet sandwich for lunch is a plus…

Fantastic experience with a knowledgeable guide. Hugh is an absolute pro who shared history of the area and so many cultural details that truly enriched the experience. It was a jaw dropping experience that I will be raving about for ages, and I'm truly grateful I had the opportunity to take a rock climbing trip while I visited the area. Top notch outfit!

Great experience! Louis took us to Mt Victoria for a day of rock climbing. He was very knowledgeable and skilled in catering the experience to all levels. We climbed several routes and had a great time. The lunch provided is amazing, best sandwiches I ever had in a long time. I recommend them 100% and will be doing the lead course this summer.

We did our multipitch course over three days with Justine. She was super knowledgeable, patient, and heaps of fun. We’re super happy with what we learnt and feel confident to tackle multipitch routes around Aus:)

I completed the Independent Canyoner and Lead Canyon course, it was an awesome experience and it helped give me confidence and lay the foundation of my skills. Hugh is an excellent instructor, took a collaborative approach and gave a safe and inclusive atmosphere. Definitely recommend everyone to give it a go!

I attended the three day multi-pitch workshop with ClimbingQTs and had a fantastic time straight from the get-go the coffee and sandwich pick-up at the Deli below the BMCS office, pre-day briefings and rope skills, the team at BMCS seem super committed to making everyone feel safe, prepared and excited for their time on the cliffs.

Our instructor JJ was knowledgeable, patient and warm. Her style was informative and clear and she gave us the perfect balance of feeling safe and supervised but independent in trying out our new skills and learning from our mistakes.

I left the course with new friends, some great photos and lots of new skills to keep myself and others safe on my own adventures. I HIGHLY recommend BMCS & can’t wait to do another course again!

Declan took us on a perfect trip! Listened to what we wanted, let us do what we knew how to do, filled in our gaps, and found us a beautiful spot with climbs we could both enjoy. We were also pleasantly surprised by the many little welcoming touches.

We had an amazing time doing the intro to climbing course with Mika. Was an incredible experience! They were a fantastic guide and made sure we had a great time, despite a rainy patch. Would recommend to anyone visiting.
