Bendooley Estate reviews
83My wife and I had a mid week stay in the Book Barn Cottage and everything was perfect, easy booking, easy check in, easy check out, the cottage is spectacular, the fire place with heaps of wood provided, well equiped kitchen, beautiful bedding, new bathrooms, stunning outlooks, we loved it so much we didn't even leave!
Attended Bendooley for a lunch on Father’s Day weekend. The older lady that looked after us was paying everyone attention but us. She served the people who arrived after us first, and they got their food first. Also served everyone around us. She even acknowledged us and said she would be right with us, turned out to be 10 minutes later. We also weren’t told the bookstore would be closing to make way for a wedding (around 3.30) and this was half the reason we came! I tried to redeem my family time with my folks by suggesting a wine tasting. Found out that too shuts at 3pm for a private wedding. But we were “allowed” a glass by the outdoor fire. Are you a wedding venue or a winery? Seriously? Pick one! 2 stars given only because the pizza was nice
Expensive for a pizza that you can get in Sydney for half the price. Although the grounds are beautiful. Service was excellent but at $32 for a pizza you would expect it to be good!
Also, stop promoting Tesla charging stations as you have replaced them with charges that need an attachment which no one has so not very impressed by that. Had to drive to another winery to charge the car.
Had a beautiful lunch and loved the ambience of the Book Store restaurant. All dishes were very tasty and enjoyed by all. McKenzie was very attentive and provided excellent service. We then enjoyed wine tastings in the cellar. Loved the Reserve Chardonnay and Reserve Pinot Noir. Jennifer was very knowledgeable and a credit to the business.
Beautiful estate with plenty of things to do onsite. Also convenient due to the short drive to Mittagong for shopping and Berrima for touring. I recommend their bookstore. Creek side cottage is luxurious. We had a super comfortable stay and relaxing walk by the creek. Room is dead quiet. Complementary choc caramel popcorn chipped my wife’s tooth but it is pretty delicious. Included continental breakfast good with barista coffee. I was hoping I could take some photos at the beautiful main estate they advertised but it was closed to visitors… But you do have access to playing with the playful estate dogs.
I had a wonderful experience at Bendooley Estate! Jen was extremely friendly and provided great service. The wines were enjoyable, and the venue itself was impressive with its modern design. Highly recommend visiting!
We visited the cellar door for a tasting. With indoor & outdoor fireplaces, the setting is really nice. Lovely wine. The staff were so friendly & even gave us tips for the area. So genuine. Thank you.
I highly recommend Bendooley Estate and especially the staff who went above and beyond to ensure our first stay was a blissful experience. In addition to the beautiful aesthetic of our room, the Bookbarn and grounds we found the food, wines and hospitality second to none. Looking forward to returning soon and making this our regular haven to unwind and reconnect to our inner peace. Thanks, Michele)
We usually enjoy ourselves whenever we visit, however the last visit wasn't quite up to standard.
We have dined here several times (always on a Sunday), but have never stayed in the accommodation. The dining atmosphere is relaxed and it's kid friendly, which means it's busy and noisy. The restaurant overlooks beautiful gardens and the area is bright and welcoming. Importantly, the bathrooms are pleasantly clean.
Customer service doesn't live up to the prices that are charged. Whilst the staff are pleasant and smile when speaking, on the last visit, we had a middle-aged waitress, who virtually told me I was a liar, when I told her that I was not told we would have to leave the table at 1.30pm (after half of the party were due to arrive at 12.30pm). Had I known, I would NOT have booked the table (there were 11 of us, including 4 children). She said, "You changed your booking to a la carte and you would have been told about the 1.30pm finish time. "
Well, NO, I wasn't!
The waitress walked away curtly and the manager soon came along and reassured me, we could all stay until whenever; it was not a problem. Phew!
After we had finished the main meal, we still wanted service but the staff were all behind the bar chatting and laughing away with no concern as to the remaining diners. I had to walk over to ask for table service. This is OK, if you're paying Maccas prices, but here they charge just under 5-star luxury hotel prices. I expect better customer service.
We all agreed, service wasn't up to much (but it's friendly). The ambiance (when you have kids) is good and they can play outside. Not sure if I'm up for being told I'm liar again if I'm not given all the information I need to make a booking, so I don't know if I want to return! After all, you're spoilt for choice in the Southern Highlands.
Reinstated my confidence about wine in this region! Beautiful wine and service. Highly recommend!
A sprawling venue and possibly too ambitious in its ability to serve everyone in a timely manner. (I’m assuming the same kitchen looks after the restaurant and cafe)
We were seated in the Vine Room for lunch.
First impressions - it’s loud (acoustics in Vine Room are on par with a stadium when it’s full). Exceptionally slow service (45min wait from time of order).
Prawn pasta was $37 and included a whopping 5 prawns (green or banana). Swimmer crab linguine was $39 for what would be 100-150gm of crab. However the lamb dish ~$49 was excellent.
Matching wines were OK.
Expensive for what is essentially good but not amazing food — albeit large serving portions.
Given what is available in the Southern Highlands, it’s a tall ask commanding top dollar from anyone except tourists and day trippers. I wouldn’t be a regular diner as such.
The best critique I can offer for Bendooley is that it lives up to its impressive reputation. A photographer's dreamland, the gardens are meticulously maintained. The service was impeccable, the food delicious. If you're after a wedding venue in the Southern Highlands it's hard to ignore (except for perhaps the Stables!).
Great food, warm service and very family friendly. We especially liked the crab linguine. Went with my 1.5 year old and we all had a blast Will definitely come back.
Hi,
We had our anniversary at bendooleys today and our server was Kush (apologies if spelt incorrectly). He was very busy, but despite this he was incredibly polite and welcoming. He made this a very special day. So Thankyou to Kush.
Fantastic food&wine, beautiful dining room/book store with a fireplace. Great art work across the board. Amazing surrounding gardens as well. Cherry on the top.one free Tesla charger 5*!)
Very Impressive
Tonight’s meal at the cellar door was the best dining experience we have had in a very long time. Friendly staff, great atmosphere, meals were hot, fresh, good proportions and quick out of the kitchen. We can not fault the experience at all, other then the fact we couldn’t stay for more cocktails. We’ll done team, we will be back.for a stay. Brad & Kate Hornbrook.
Excellent service & wines
Thanks to the knowledgeable Barbara for a very pleasant experience.
I love, love Bendooley, the food is fantastic a wonderful range of wines, atmosphere is wonderful and a great place for a wedding. Looking to.have my daughter wedding there.
Had a birthday lunch on dec 31st, beautiful view and the fig prosciutto was awesome
The thing that dissappointed is they substituted my GF linguine to penne without notice,
and almost missed our birthday candle
Stayed in the accomodation.fabulous, restful and well appointed.one of the best I have experienced.breakfast included - was excellent.
