Bar Cleveland

Good bar to meet up, more a locals pub to some one those pubs north of Bar C. Good range of tap beers.

I've been a regular patron at bar cleveland for many years. The staff that stay on are like family and very friendly. The pokies although limited in numbers has an excellent, friendly and attentive gaming attendant.

BC was my local bar for a long period of time.

The staff that came through the high turnover were always hit or miss, but the ones that stuck around were always truly welcoming.

Like many Aussie bars, the ongoing locals are the pillar stones of BC.

The stories I could tell from the piss-ups there and the friends I made at BC will always be held fondly in my heart.

If you're looking for a bar to make good drinking friends, somewhat slightly overpriced drinks (it's Surry Hills/Redfern area, what are you going to expect?), and some drunken stories to tell.

. Come to BC.

Oh, and the burgers are pretty solid, too.

When you're starving everything tastes good, even the pasta served here with an amount of salt that would leave you on the verge of a kidney failure and 3 micro croutons that were clearly not fresh. Even when you have to wait about 40 minutes for it on a non busy night. Kind FOH team though. Good for drinks, terrible pasta at least. Won't have food here again

I always enjoy Bar Cleveland. It's my local. The food is good and consistent. I love the relaxed feel.

Was a great atmosphere went for a couple of post concert beverages advertised open till 2am but called last drinks at 1 was a bit if a bummer but had a great time still.

This is a fantastic proper local pub, and yet the vegan burger is amazing. Very impressed. Idk what patty and cheese they use, but it’s all phenomenal.

I've had a good, solid, reliable four-star performance out of Bar Cleveland over the years. Been stopping by here for the occasional mid-day shandy since, what, 2010 or so?

The main draw for me is the outdoors people-watching table on the corner. But the interior has preserved the authentic old-school character that used to make Surry Hills, Redfern and Waterloo such interesting places. They aren't making any more of these, so get it while you still can.

Bar Cleveland's quiet and peaceable during the day. Friendly staff. Clean loo. Plenty of space. Conveniently located between the Oxford Street shops and the southeast Redfern shopping district.

Well worth your visit.

(Ah! One last thought. Can't say what it's like at midnight on Fridays - your mileage may vary.)

I ate the Monday lunch special - Chicken Schnitzel. I have eaten a lot of Schnitzels and this one was definitely up there. It was quite thick and well cooked and the lemon was nice and fresh. As a bonus, the chips were the best I've had in a while, super crispy and delicious.

Had the lunch special $17 chicken schnitzel. Great and fast service from the young man serving us. Bloody great tasting meal for pub grub. The deep fried chips were AMAZING! WITH THAT NOISY CRUNCH.

Excellent newly renovated function room! Had my 30th birthday here the room was beautiful, food was delicious, drinks were value, and staff friendly and helpful! Will definitely have another event here

Disappointing dinner. Steak well over done when medium rare requested and was second choice due to no pie available although it was on the menu.

Usual weekly visit.
Great pub, staff are usually quite friendly and accommodating for larger groups.
Great drinks and selection of beers.
Pretty disappointed with the new menu though. Lacks the options it previously had, not as good.

Can get slammed at lunchtimes on busy days, so make sure you allow a little extra time for the food!

Update: five years later, read the above. Which is a good thing.

Late lunch at the Clevo’. Deft hand of Nathan and the kitchen crew ensure really tasty dishes inc juicy wagyu burger and excellent steak sandwich. Inspired beef cheek and porter pie or perfectly seared octopus. Well priced house wines and good selection of beers. Hopperesque lighting creates relaxing vibe in the main bar. Relax with friendly staff and local Surry Hills regulars.

Although the food is ok, can't say the same for the "service". After waiting at the bar for around 10 minutes and being acknowledged by the bartender (who to be fair was busy at the time) I waited patiently.

All of a sudden a couple come from outside and walk to the counter, the bartender then just goes straight up to them to serve and ignores me. I have never seen such blatant disregard and obliviousness towards a customer, there was no excuse for it. If you love eating your food next to a highway with a side of carbon monoxide this is the place for you, I for one will not return.

I recently had my 40th birthday upstairs in the Sophia room at Bar Cleveland. The staff were amazingly helpful, nothing was too hard. The crew as always at Bar Cleveland are super organized, professional and lovely to deal with. The new venue is stunning, the food was great and all of my guests raved about the space and vibe. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Super happy! A big thanks to Olivia for everything!
