What a magical place to stay. I loved everything about it. The Japanese influence, privacy, and peace. Just what the soul needed at the end of a long road trip.

Absolutely wonderful accomodation. TP is an amazing host with wonderful service. Love that the breakfast is served on the balcony with beds made daily and rubbish removed too. Rooms are clean and very funky setup. Located so close to town and yet feels so far away. Really looking forward to staying again!

We don't normally write reviews but after our experience at this place, we feel we need to warn others. The rainforest location was pretty but that's where it ends. We were so unhappy that we ended up cutting our 3-night stay short and left after just one night. Our request for a partial refund was refused and led to a heated argument. We felt it was worth it to move on, cut our losses and pay for alternate accommodation.
The moment we entered the room we were disappointed by how small the space was. Didn't feel inviting at all. Really dark, poor lighting. Awkward layout. Space was so small there was nowhere to put luggage, also no cupboards or shelves - just one tiny clothes rail. Nowhere to sit inside. When we commented on this, the owner made a derogatory comment. The room was attached to a neighbouring room. Couldn't have had insulation as we could hear everything from next door - talking, walking on floorboards, taps running.
Hated the fact that there wasn't a separate bathroom which you would expect in a place calling themselves a retreat and spa. Shower was on one side of the room, toilet on the other side and basin was right in the middle behind the bed. Shower was inside the spa bath - to access the shower, you had to take a big step down into the bath making it a slip hazard. Spa bath itself was tiny and an uninviting area. Minimal toiletries provided. Felt like there wasn't any effort made to offer a relaxing, pampering space.
Bedding supplied wasn't crisp and clean as you would expect. Furnishings tired and dated. Very poorly maintained. The lever on the shower tap came off in my hand when I went to use it. Wish we had taken photos to back all this up but we just couldn't wait to leave.

It looks nice from pictures, but inside everything is old, ants everywhere, small, the shower is not safty at all.
Very disapointed from our vacation we had

Beautiful room, we loved the view and the ambience. There's so many great walks around to experience and very close to the beach as well. We are more than happy with our experience with Abazu.

Tipi was an absolute legend, incredibly accommodating and considerate. We forgot to put in an order for our second days breakfast (the first of which was fresh, free, delicious and delivered to your door) and upon heading upstairs past breakfast time to check out, he offered to still make us something and when we told him we were going to go into town for breakfast he gave us a $50 gift voucher to a local cafe! Tranquil location surrounded by stunning wildlife. 100/10

BEAUTIFUL location, views and room. Had the most amazing stay with my partner. Red wine in the spa, with stunning rainforest views. We also had a 90 minute massage - incredible!

Looking forward to our next stay here.

Had a lovely four day stay. The rooms were very nice and open. Me and my partner had a great massage which I’d say is one of the best we’ve had. On-site peacock is stunning, staff are very friendly and make an effort to remember your name. Highly recommend

My partner and I stayed for 2 nights last week. The man that greeted us and checked us in was friendly and helpful. He offered to carry our bags to our room and every time we walked in and out of the retreat, he poked his head out to see if we needed anything. The room was a bit smaller than expected, but the high windowed doors to the outside rainforest made it feel like it was more spacious. The spa bath / shower was a little weird how it dropped down so far. Wouldn't be suitable for elderly or people with hip / back problems. My partner hurt his leg stepping down into it one of the times (and he's 39!)! I did notice there was some mould and cob webs on the ceiling and some small spiders. High ceilings so didn't bother me a great deal but I sprayed a couple of them. Fan was rattly so we used the air con instead which was quiet. We were in Room 5 which I noticed a couple people had some bad ratings about the room but we stayed in summer so didn't use the heater. Everything besides the fan and ceiling was clean. Lay out was a bit cramped but cute. We used the outside hot tub on both the days we stayed and nobody else was using it so was perfect for the two of us! The host gave us some plastic cups so we could have a cocktail while in the hot tub. Initially it was luke warm but the host was quick to race down with his tools and fixed it for us instantly and within minutes, it was nice and hot. Most of the time it felt like we were the only people there, with it being so quiet and peaceful but we did hear our neighbours quite loudly at one point. The reception area was set up nicely and they had a candle burning in there every day that smelled like burning wood which was really nice. We went out for the day and came back and our room was fully serviced, bed made, fresh towels, more toilet paper, new shampoo bottles, etc just like hotel service. We asked for a late check out and were given 11am (instead of the usual 10am) at no extra charge which was great. Free on-site parking and only an 8 minute drive into the main part of town with all the restaurants. I think if the ceilings had a bit of a clean to get rid of the mould, webs and spiders, I'd give it 5 stars. Our stay was great!

A slice of paradise! Beautiful rooms and rainforest setting, and kind service from TP. Close enough to Byron Bay to see the sights, far enough (less than 10mins by car, but feels like a world away) to switch off and recharge at this tranquil retreat. Can't wait to go back again one day. Thank you for our amazing stay!

The service here is very attentive and friendly. The room was really cute and had great views of the garden. Peacocks on site too. Only downfalls were that you can hear the neighbours come back at night and the spa is small in terms of length for two people, however, you can still make it work.

My husband and I had a 90 minute spa package and the massage, and experience as a whole, was amazing. My husband went as far to say it may be the best massage he has ever had. We like firm massages so it is often difficult to find a place that does a good firm massage. We will definitely be back!

My partner and I absolutely loved our stay - the room was clean, relaxing, and peaceful. We felt very connected with nature. Our massage treatments were fantastic and the manager was very welcoming and friendly. We even met some peacocks outside who were hanging out by the entrance. Highly recommended!

Liked
We wanted to like lots but unfortunately that wasn’t the case. Property is set on a beautiful property and the view from the room is gorgeous. Peacocks in the morning was such a delight and really made our stay.

Disliked
Where do we start? - The split system was SO LOUD, something is definitely wrong with it. Sounds like a plane taking off. Impossible to sleep through and desperately needs a service. Now from reading old reviews about room 5, I see this is an ongoing ignored complained. Then on top of this the little floor heater is broken, so we were freezing. We complained about this and got a small oil heater, which didn’t do much, and a free (average and semi cold) breakfast and some blankets.
- Room is poorly designed, little space and just awkward.
- Shower/bath makes so much mess. Water everywhere all the way on to the floor. This got my boyfriends case and clothes wet and it was awful to walk through in the night. Considering that you pay extra for a bath and there’s no bath salts or bubble bath left… really poor. We had to go spend extra money to buy some.
DON’T GET A SPA BATH IF YOU ARE NOT ABLE BODIED. It’s a big drop and hard to get in and out of.
- The owners were away and the fill in lady genuinely had no idea what to do to compensate our stay. We accepted the free breakfast. It was ok but glad we didn’t pay for it.
- Outside spa that they rave about is only set to 30 degrees - the average spa is set to 36-38. This made it luke warm, especially on a cold winters night. We were excited to go in but didn’t because it was way too cold.
- Cleaning was so poor. Poo in the toilet, cobwebs everywhere, dangerous rotting deck. Cockroaches running through the room. See pics.

Property is tired and poorly run. Definitely wouldn’t be back and definitely wouldn’t recommend. If you’re not fussy and don’t care about hygiene or comfort.this place is for you.

Every interaction we had with this hotel was hostile and unprofessional. I would rather sleep in my car, than stay at Azabu. Any opportunity to run away with your money, they seize it.

The place is moldy and rotting. You better not ask for anything during your stay, as you are an inconvenience to them. Not allowed to make a complaint either, they deny everything. It isn't worth the stress. Stay somewhere else.

We booked the resort for our honeymoon but were unable to go because my father passed away on the day of my wedding… Zero compassion for our situation and got told this cannot be re-booked or refunded as it’s a small business….
Thanks for nothing Terrance

Booked this resort, local flooding made us unable to stay, was told cancelling our booking would get us a refund of any nights that sold again which seemed reasonable considering the lateness of the cancellation. But here we are over a month and a half later still out of pocket, with no replies from the business apart from that they have been short staffed and would sort it out within a few days. Now a week and a half from that response still no further along in the process than I was a month and a half ago. I'm sure the resort is lovely but this situation and lack of communication and professionalism in refunding the money they told us they would for this long has put a sour taste in our months and make us unwilling to try going there again
