I don't normally write reviews, but when I saw a negative review was the only one for these guys, I thought I should share my experience which has been nothing short of excellent. I've seen two counsellors before over my adult life and while they were both helpful, the experience was nowhere near as professional or truly expert as the one I've had here.

The lady on the phone was very warm and intelligent and spent 20 minutes on the phone with me checking what I was after to make sure it was a good fit. She asked me whether I knew what style of therapist I'd prefer. I didn't really know the answer, so she asked me what I found helpful with my previous therapists and what I thought was lacking.

I explained I wanted more direction and someone who would work more actively with me and teach me some skills, rather than just a good listener. I feel the match I've made is so far really excellent. I've had 4 sessions and from the first session I got practical tips and strategies to go forward. I have also been able to use a Medicare health plan through my GP which the receptionist here told me about and is saving me about $85 per session. Thank you! Big thumbs up from me.

Our company has been using Associated Counsellors for a number of years as our employee assistance provider. The team intake team are very responsive and professional and have helped us navigate what sort of personal support we might offer team members at different times. The feedback we have had from our staff about the quality of the counselling has also been exceptional. Highly recommended and trustworthy firm.

My scheduled online session with an Associate Counsellors staff was appallingly!

The first 1/2 of the session was taken up with a standardized diagnostic questionnaire which is generally completed PRIOR to the initial consultation and which could have been emailed to me with the demand for prepayment of fees. It was not a ‘helpful’ use of my time.

The remainder of my allotted time focused on ‘background’ information, although I’d specifically said that I did not want that to be the focus of my session. I wanted to focus on my goals.

At the conclusion of the clumsy FaceTime session, after our polite goodbyes, I heard - and saw - the therapist say ‘what a mess. ’ I watched in disbelief as she muttered her judgement of my issues, thinking that she’d ended the call. All this for A$180!

I contacted management of Associated Counselors in Surry Hills and was told that someone would call me back, but they didnt. So I rang again the next day and was told by Hannah, the receptionist - not the person I’d spoken to the previous day- that Joe the director said I should talk to the therapist about the situation. Mmmm.felt like a 2nd breach of confidentiality and a clear message of disregard for my situation.

I did not receive a safe, non-judgemental space.
I did I receive a purposeful session - I had prepared my goals for the session but was told by the therapist that we’d talk about those in subsequent sessions. I think not.
I did not receive a response to my concerns about the lack of professionalism
I did not receive value for my money, time and preparedness to be vulnerable.

Sadly what I got was:
an irrelevant, unproductive, cookie-cutter approach to my very individual needs.

BEWARE, the focus of this clinic appears to be on helping themselves, not helping clients.
Unbelievable to me that management failed to deem a need to return phone calls. It speaks volumes on their level of professionalism and concern for client welfare.
