I would like to thank the team at A Growing Understanding for the professional, pleasant, polite and thorough manner in which both admin and the specialist conduct their business.
It has been a long and hard week of hearing difficult and challenging news about our 9mth old daughter from multiple disciplinary teams.
Today, not only was our consult very in-depth, there was a great deal of patience and checking in to ensure nothing was missed, that I was ok and time for myself to ask questions.
And at the end the hope that we desperately need to hear right now was offered.
I also love how it clearly shows when you walk in that a great deal of pride and celebration is shown for each child’s journey and success (both big and small).

I can’t thank the team from A Growing Understanding enough, particularly the amazing Dimity. From the moment I inquired and started with AGU I was made feel welcome. The beautiful reception team are so welcoming and love the special touch of welcoming myself and both children by name (how do they remember all the children?). Such a beautiful touch. With my daughter being so young I was unsure how it would go and would she/I get much out of it but boy was I wrong. She has come leaps and bounds from clinic to day care sessions educating her carers on key word sign and communication. From therapy to assisting with a swallow study to support a nervous mum. The knowledge is so reassuring. Every session my 5yr old has to attend and he is always made feel welcome by Dimity and the team and has since started therapy as well so we are off to a flying start with him as well with the relationship he’s already formed with the centre and Dimity. My daughter has been seeing Melissa for over 3 years and we have always had a great experience with her. My daughter loves to see her and can’t wait for her weekly trip to “the office”. From the moment you walk in and see Jordan at the front desk, who always is welcoming and excited to see what we’ve been up to, we feel like part of a family here.

So impressed with A Growing Understanding. Our speech pathologist Linda is absolutely fantastic. She engages with the children so well and as a result they really improve. The reception staff have also been very helpful. Very happy customer.

Highly recommended these amazing girls. From Jordan booking our appointment and making sure times suit my daughter and for Jackie we are so thankful for everything she does we have seen such a massive improvement in the last 6 months. It’s worth the drive each week to the Darby street clinic

My son's speech has blossomed since coming to A Growing Understanding. He can't wait for his appointment every week with Melissa. She has such a gentle, caring nature, and is so good at what she does. And seeing Jordan's smiling face on arrival is always lovely. Lauren has chosen her team well and I can't thank Melissa and her coworkers enough for how they've helped us.

A wonderful practice. Our son is blossoming and learning so quickly, Which is a reflection on their engagement and encouragement and kind and caring approach to helping children.

Melissa and the team at Lake Macquarie are just lovely! Highly recommend the centre, Charlie loves attending he's sessions there each week.

The staff at A Growing Understanding Newcastle are amazing! My son suffers from anxiety given COVID-19 and he was greeted with kindness and he really responded to Julie. He left the Office feeling very happy and chatty. I can't thank them enough.

A Growing Understanding is such a lovely and inviting clinic. From Jordan at the front desk and her very welcoming smile and ‘congratulations on great work’ sticker/stamp at the end of the session, to the cute little waiting room where I can eat as much chocolate cake as I want and not worry about any added Kgs, to the treatment rooms that are inviting and always full of fun and engaging things to do. I can completely understand why my kids are always happy to attend therapy. Plus I feel comforted knowing that we are in no way receiving a generic approach to therapy but are instead receiving something that is tailored to my children’s needs and I have been able to have a part in every step. I would highly recommend them for your child’s speech therapy needs.

After previously having worked with Lauren when my daughters deafness was diagnosed almost 6 years ago it was a huge relief to be able to start working with her again after our previous speech therapist relocated and have loved having the ability to work with her again for the past 9 months. My daughter Abbigail loves coming to speech therapy every fortnight and working towards her goals. She is constantly motivated by Lauren to participate in her in home practice and activities. Lauren is also a genius at making some very boring “drill” type work fun and inviting. Her expertise, diligence and genuine care/concern are the ideal combination in ensuring Abbigail’s continued progress and success. Another huge benefit has been Lauren’s flexibility with both in clinic appointments and school based appointments allowing a much clearer picture on where we need to prioritise Abbi’s goals, as well as provide feedback to the school by way of strategies and options to provide the best learning environment.

I have also recently began session with Jackie for my 3 year old son Callan. Callan has almost instantly become possessive of the clinic due to loving his time there working with Jackie that he feels the need to tell his big sister it’s “His speech therapy! ” and will often attempt to lock himself in the treatment room so he doesn’t have to go home when our time is up. In such a short space of time Jackie has built a beautiful relationship with Callan making sure to have things he’s interested in (dinosaurs and activities involving moving rather then sitting still) to hold his attention and has managed to keep him engaged much longer then I often can my self.

Both Lauren and Jackie are always providing me with skills that I can implement at home to achieve a high success rate for our goals as well as constantly providing me with feedback so I know where we are in regards to the kids therapy and eliminating any guess work. As a family we are grateful to be in such good hands and look forward to continuing to work as a team to ensure many HIGH FIVES in Abbigail and Callan’s future.
