1989 Arcade Bar reviews
75 Bring back the 80s it's a step back in time, no one cares what your doing, so just live your dreams.
Great food and drinks.
Fantastic place to check out. We went on the club day where we could play everything for $20 (besides pinball machines) and it was so fun. Played a heap of point blank and Galaga. Great time.
Curtis! Wow…. Made the most insane cocktails whilst he was levitating! He is a multitasking queen! The prince of north king! I will be back!
I second the view of Jess Hope and can imagine its the same individual. Seems like nothing was done 2 months later and said individual still works there
Funky Newtown icon of a bar, come for the video games, stay fit the friendly staff and enjoyable beverages.
A very friendly and welcoming place. Wide selection of 80s and 90s arcade machines spread over two floors. Good selection of beers and spirits. Bar staff and patrons are friendly and are always up for a chat and to share their knowledge/skills on the retro video games. I’m not local to the area, but to me it’s worth the 30 minute journey there. Basically, I think there are two ways to think of this place: either an arcade where you can enjoy a couple of beers; or a bar where you can have the occasional bout on Street Fighter II. Either way, it’s a great place.
Blast from the past great night feeling like a kid again playing old school games but best thing was getting to drink at the same time
Really sad to give this a one star rating.
The machines and games were a lot of fun and the vibe is great but the overall experience was tainted by the incredibly rude staff. Never felt such appalling service in Newtown. A group of us came by to celebrate a birthday and one staff member in particular treated us very poorly and with a negative attitude the entire night. There was no warmth or real care for any of the customers. A real shame that this used to be one of my favourites.
Nice games. But the service is DISGUSTING. My boyfriend got coins and while he was putting his phone in his pocket the one bar men said “YOU ACTUALLY HAVE TO TAKE THE COINS” with a rude attitude
Another time we were standing by the stairs as there was no where else to stand and he asked us with a bad attitude to please move out of the way we are blocking the walk away
Terrible attitude
And like all don’t want to be there and treating customers terribly but still have a tip jar?
We had a group of 15 people and we won’t be back
We don’t want to feel guilt or feel bad about where we are standing or when ordering
This was on the 22nd. It was the two bar men with dark hair. Not the blonder one
No place like this in the City!
Friendly staff, come with friends, have a drink of your choice and chat in an 80's themed bar!
Two floors of Retro Arcade games and Pinballs to play, or pick-up a board game like Risk and beat your mate.
Has a menu, but they also are cool with ordering Pizza from next door and bringing it in.
Definitely coming back to this bar.
Best unique bar in Newtown: it doesn't get more fun than this! It's always my first recommendation when people visit the area.
Only con is that food options are limited and that it can get expensive, given that each game costs at least 1 dollar.
Such a cool bar and vibe! Games are great and takes you back in time. Drinks are great too! Will definitely be coming back and recommend to all:)
Went here last night (Thurs 9th Nov) with a few mates from work. Had a blast.
Bloke behind the bar (Matt?) was super helpful. He helped us with our tab, dishing out beers, coins, and good chat super quick. A great effort from him considering the place was busy and was just him behind the bar.
Great vibe. Will be back.
Great games and great staff! Matt and the rest of the crew were extremely friendly and helpful!
Cool vibe, but really poor service.
Ordered drinks for our group with a bowl of chips. When we asked one of the staff about our bowl of chips he replied “is there something you expect me to do about it? ”
Given we had brought a group of friends from overseas to the bar, it’s really disappointing that they had this kind of experience.
If you're coming here for chips, they're $10 for a very underwhelming portion n quality size. Finger for scale. Nice games though?
Awesome little bar with good drinks and really cool vibes. It’s not often you get to play golden eye and turn around and play classic arcade games
