Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve reviews
42It's a very large natural reserve, even with a car it takes almost a day to navigate if one wants to visit all the important sites inside. There are also a lot of hiking trails that require bushwalking experience. If you want to see wild animals, you will have to keep your eyes peeled as they are a bit difficult to spot. Not a lot of people there on weekdays.
Incredibly cool experience. Got incredibly close to Koalas and Kangaroos. Probably will take 2-3 hours for additional hikes and sights. Park is Free.
Incredibly beautiful and peaceful area with fantastic hike options. I did the Gibraltar Peak hike, which took me about 4 hours with lots of time to hang out at the top and stopping often to take pictures. I saw lots of wildlife, including kangaroos, mountain dragons, skinks, and a lot of interesting birds. I enjoyed reading about the history of the area and the significance it has to native Australians on the many informative plaques. It was a Sunday with beautiful weather but it was not crowded. The building was closed when I was there. Note that there were not bathrooms since the building was closed. I would have loved to spend more time there!
One of the most beautiful places, we went there for an event the kids gad so much fun. The play area is great, we enjoyed the music and the band, unfortunately we didn’t have the time to see the animals.
The sanctuary has multiple ponds and is easy to navigate. Go clockwise if you're looking for the platypus specific pond.
It's easily a 2 hour+ activity if you're wildlife watching. There are plenty of benches in designated spot. Restroom (WC) available on site.
The reserve has little visitors during the weekday. We stopped by on Sunday and ranger provided us a map at the visitors' information centre near the entrance. The visitor information centre wasn't open on Monday.
A great place to see some Australian wildlife. You pay a small fee (17 AUD) to enter the park with your car. There are alot of different walking trails, well maintained to explore the vast area. Definitely a day trip activity to explore. Especially during sunset and dawn you'll see alot of animals. So try to stay into the park as long as possible before closure.
We went for a walk and saw the koalas and had a good search for the platypus without any luck. Very worthwhile place for a Canberra based nature visit.
I was hoping to see platypus here but sadly they were all hiding somewhere. But there were caged koalas and other wild birds in the sanctuary. You'll have to buy an entry ticket in the visitor centre that'll cost about $15/car. There is an open-field picnic area before you can reach the sanctuary and sometimes bunch of kangaroos will hang out around. They're not afraid of human contact, so you can get pretty close to them to take photos. There is also a rest area in the middle of the sanctuary and the place is a good spot to have light lunch.
A wonderful place that’s a must visit in the Canberra area. The reserve is well designed with a variety of walking paths that offered plentiful opportunities to spot local fauna. The informational exhibits along the paths were also exceptionally well thought out. There is more than enough to do to fill several separate visits.
Love this place. You can do bush walking, adore the panorama, you can do picnic, so many spots.you can rest and play in tidbinbilla playground too.see some iconic Australian animals such as emu, koala, kangaroo, snake, platypus etc
Excellent place. One of the largest parks / reserves I have ever been. Plenty of things to see and everything is as organized as the city of Canberra is. You'll not regret visiting the place.
I came here on a visit as a tourist from the UK. There was soo much to see snd do that one day did not feel enough. There was a $14 entrance fee for the car and this included a free map. A car is a necessity as the place is vast.
The visitors centre had really friendly and helpful staff who gave loads of great tips. They also sold drinks, coffee, tea and small snacks like sausage rolls and some pretty cool souvenirs.
The map has a plethora of information on the different types of walks with over 20 hikes ranging from easy 25 minute ones to more challenging 8 hour hikes!
Throughout the reserve there are lots of animals to observe (I saw kangaroors, wallabies and a koala), lots of information about the reserve/animals and plenty of toilets. Thrre were beautiful, stunning views and a lot of historical and cultural information provided.
I loved the experience. My advice would be that some of the information provided needs to be clearer and straightforward as the woman at information provided me with lots of tips and information not on the map but it was a lot of information to digest and take in and this made it hard to plan what to see and do in the limited time we had. It felt quit overwhelming. Also more guided tours should be offered.
Lived this reserve. Very helpful staff at the visitors centre. Map was a little hard to follow. Good signposting but you had to know which carpark wad for which walk. Would be better if walk numbers were on signposts
Great place to visit. Plenty of walking tracks with animals in the area. Cafe and gift shop on site.
The signage on the tracks need more specific signs as we got confused and lost a bit of time doing a loop we did not need to do
Really nice place to visit! If you go with kids do not miss the playground lots of fun!
Great opportunity to switch off your phone without reception, breathe in the fresh air, get closer to nature, get a closer look at the animals, enjoy the tranquility of the lake, sit under the eucalyptus for a picnic or explore the natural vegetation.
For us, with kids it's really important to get away from screens and this was just perfect.
Just visited the information centre at this stage. The staff were really helpful and we will be back. This is a great place!
Peaceful place very great staff and helpful. Lot to explore and offers a variety to all age groups.
It was an amazing experience.it was my first time I finally met koalas and kangurus and it was soo special to meet them in the wild. Definitely worth a visit
Just wonderful!
Lots of walks of all difficulty levels. Lots of picnic areas, well laid out. Lots of toilet facilities that were clean and had soap AND hand dryers.
The Sanctuary had lots of wildlife that weren't camera shy. Notably there were nesting black swans right next to the path and a VERY friendly couple of bandicoot that came right up and ran around my feet. That close!
The koalas were also active that made a nice change.
As I said.
Just wonderful.
