Rubicon Restaurant reviews
74 Another wonderful night at Rubicon, Jeff looked after us and had lot's of laughs as always. Beautiful food and congratulations to the lovely family who received terrific news of twins joining their family. Thank you for shouting all our section with a drink to celebrate.
This is truely the best restaurant in Canberra in every way.
Cheers Sandy and Ian
Great food, great wine, excellent service. If you could give 10 out of 5 then this is the venue.
My guests were looking forward to a couple of dishes (souffle and confit of duck) advertised on the website but were not available that night. However, one of the replacement mains ie duck breast was lovely. The entrees were ok, and the steak and fish mains were nice. However, dessert i.e. Chocolate mousse cake was ordinary and the roasted plum cheesecake was disappointing. The service was excellent.
I would call it French rather than modern Australian. The dishes have a very French tone and taste using modern Australian ingredients. Try the degustation menu where you can choose the composition of the menu from among the ala carte offerings.
Excited to come here with my in-laws and husband for his birthday. We were all very disappointed with the service by our waiter Vincent. His attitude and demeanour made us all uncomfortable and marred the experience of what should have been a special meal. At times we felt like he was basically throwing our plates onto the table. We are from Sydney but often in Canberra and always look forward to the amazing service we find in Canberra restaurants. This was a disappointing experience not in line with our experience at other restaurants here.
Time after time, I'm never disappointed when I return to Rubicon. Exquisite meals, fantastic service and a lovely ambiance makes for a consistently outstanding experience.
Probably the best meal I’ve had out in Canberra. Everything delivered to our table was standout. The service was also efficient and helpful. The fitout is in need of a refresh but it doesn’t detract from how good the food is.
I wanted a special dinner for my wife's birthday. Rubicon was perfect - delicious food, beautifully presented. Exactly what I wanted!
Good, but not as good as it used to be. Service adequate not brilliant. Food tasty but nothing special. Side dishes much smaller than in previous years. No longer offering BYO means we will look elsewhere for our special evenings out. A shame as we used to enjoy bringing something special from our cellar along. Wine list extensive. Too extensive. Beware: ordering q scoop of ice cream still incurs the 3 scoop price (waitress failed to let us know that).
Great service and delicious food. Quite an unassuming little place behind its velvet curtains in a small group of shops. Good wine knowledge. Professional and friendly wait staff.
Wonderful food, wine and staff. The owner went the extra mile to make our experience exceptional which we greatly appreciated, as well as the very friendly, knowledgeable sommelier. The octopus dish was a stand out, but all courses were well rounded and delicious. We will be back again soon!
For my first time here, I was pleasantly surprised. I had walked past and didn't realise what was hiding behind a relatively unassuming front. The staff are exactly what you would expect. Very attentive and personable. The food didn't disappoint. It was a delicious range and for the 6 course, we were able to chose between almost anything on the menu and they portioned it accordingly. I was initially worried about leaving hungry. But by the end, was very satisfied. The semillon was great with the wines and even though he looked younger than most I have seen. He has a lot of experience and it is obviously his passion.
Simply put, Rubicon is outstanding. The wait staff and sommelier are great and the food is sensational.
We had the "design your own" 6 course degustation with paired wine and each dish was perfect. My favourite was the gruyere souffle, which is definitely a fluffy cheesy cloud of goodness, while the Pernod cured salmon was delicately balanced and amazing.
Pacific Oyster 3$
My partner and I are both big fans of Pacific? There are three cooking methods to serve oysters at this restaurant: Natural, Tozasu, and Kilpatrick.
Oysters are of good qualitys, and they are not quite fishy even served naturally.
Tozasu is Japanese style, topped with salmon roe, which I think is the best (slightly salty).
Patrick Q is relatively ordinary.
Entree
Beef Tartare 22$
Their beef tartare tastes just like McDonald's beef burgers! Because they both have pickles in them. But I really hate the smell of gherkin, so ️. It was shaped into a square. The other half is a piece of deep fried Rick cake, too sticky.
Scollop Prosciutto 22$
Absolutely fantastic! How good was it!Do try it! It's been a long time since I've had this refreshing, light, moist scollop. Make sure you put Cheery Tomato with every mouthful,it really levels up the whole taste.
Mains
Beef Cheek 38$
Slow cook dish, overall it's a disappointment! Too dry.
Waygu (MS7) $55
Yum!We ordered medium rare, and they brought us a textbook medium rare. It was still watermelon red inside, a little bit scorched on the outside. The palate was at its peak!
Dessert
Chocolate Marquis 18$
The white Choc mousse was so delicious, not too sweet. It was just rightly cold, and the instant smoothness on the mouth just silently wrapped around your tongue! Three different texture of chocolate in perfect harmony.
When we finally walked out, I said thank you to a very handsome chef in the kitchen. He said, "Our pleasure! So cute!
Finally, the atmosphere of this restaurant was awesome. If you come next time, you can request to sit under the romantic starry Sky at the back.
Absolutely amazing meals and staff, would like to thank Vince for the lovely service he provided, very welcoming atmosphere will definitely be back and will be recommending
It was beautiful and the food was rich and succulent. I highly recommend for a date or wedding anniversary.
We have had dinner here on multiple occasions and have found that this restaurant goes above and beyond. Have had amazing service and even more amazing food. From the bread, sashimi, pork and manchego croquette, the beef rib eye and the duck fat roasted potatoes and autumn greens. To finish with the creme brulee. The most amazing dining experience. We have had dinner at multiple fine dining restaurants and Rubicon is one of those restaurants we keep coming back to. With the fairy light atmosphere and the knowledgeable, enthusiastic waiters, you are definitely in for a fine dining, palatable experience.
This is my number one restaurant for special occasions.
The food the service the ambiance are excellent. The best.
Really great experience. Four of us had dinner here and really couldn't fault anything, the food really was exceptional and exceeded our expectations. Can't wait to come again and try some more dishes off the menu.
Never fails to impress. Food is exceptional and not too pretentious. Cosy atmosphere and perfect wine matches
