National Museum of Australia reviews
59Amazing museum, absolutely fantastic collection, and of high importance to preserve knowledge, acknowledge history and inform us all about the land we’re on. The ‘First Australians’ tour by Row is something I would recommend everyone booking in for. It had me to tears several times. Just so beautiful and sad and interesting all at the same time. Thank you!
Plenty parking, great location. Extensive collection, be prepared to walk. A huge collection of indigenous artefacts and information. A large area was under renovation so all we saw was the first nation displays really. Cafe is nice worth an outside terrace, modern and clean facilities in general. Should not miss this place, especially considering entry is free.
Another place in Canberra that is free to enter and great for a visit. A great display of Australian history was there when we were there.
A very clean and presentable museum, has plenty to see, some in random places but still enjoyable. The lower floor is closed and so is the landmarks area at present but didn't take anything away from a lovely museum. Signage for exit could be better as I couldn't find a simple way out. The cafe is ideally located and it's got great views over the lakes. It's also a nice walk from the centre maybe 25 minutes.
The museum is too interesting n too large for one visit. So I just joined as a member n have been thrice in 3 months for discoveries. Recommend highly to families n older peoples too.
Artistic design. Impressive content. 'Though my daughter was very bored, 'cept for the little games she found in between.
No ticket is required for the gallery. We did not check out the exhibition as time wasn't allowed.
From sheep pelts to tractor buckets, this is the museum that has everything Australian pop and past culture.
The National Museum has an outstanding range of displays about the social history of Australia. We especially enjoyed the big screen display of whales and the virtual reality screening of Beyond the Milky Way.
Great museum with so much to see and read. Both the internal and external are beautiful, this is no doubt my favourite museum in Australia.
On 6 JANUARY 2020, visited National MUSEUM OF AUSTRALIA, AUSTRALIAN WAR MEMORIAL AND PARLIAMENT OF AUSTRALIA, ACT, AUSTRALIAN CAPITAL TERRITORY
GREAT PLACE TO HAVE VISITED
#NAINGOOCANBERRA, ACT
For the massive size of the place it seemed like a massive waste of tax payers money with vast open areas not being utilised. The Captain Cook exhibition was OK but mostly interested in the aboriginal perspective which was often based on opinions not facts. Captain Cook was a fascinating individual who seemed to be underplayed to suit the obviously Woke agenda. Much better things to do in Canberra. Actually the outside of the building was quite impressive.
Lots to see and do if you are visiting Canberra. Best part it's all free! Best time to visit is on the weekend when parking is free.
A really interesting and engaging display of everything that makes us Australian - from old Holden's to Mining, RFDS, Rural and everything in between. Excellent, friendly, knowledgeable staff everywhere.
Great place to learn about the history of Australia, the early settlers and the aboriginals. It would serve as a good history lesson for all age group, especially mature audience who want to learn history of how Australia came to be.
Came to listen to the Djinama Yilaga Choir & from the Yuin Nation sing in Dhurga language for Reconciliation week. MAGICAL
Didn't see any exhibitions but from past experience will need a whole day for that.
So many yummies in the cafe, but had to wait in line for a long time before being served.
Not great from a historical point ofview in a general sense, however great focus on the atrocitites committed to the Indegenous people by the early settlers.
Highlight was the heart of the great Phar Lap
Surprisingly excellent. Far superior to the Australian War Memorial. The NMA is much more historically accurate, politically balanced and free of shameless propaganda that the AWM.
It’s good but not great! As a National Museum my expectation was high. But didn’t meet expectations. Museums in Sydney are more resourceful than this one.
A real disappointment and possibly the worst museum I have been to. Most of the place seemed to be closed and the exhibits that were open were under-whelming. Also very difficult to find your way around the place. The decent cafe was the only redeeming feature.
Wonderful, the aborigen subject is the center of this museum. Excelente for people that is learning the history of Australia
