Lanyon Homestead reviews
39Cafe food was deplorably bad. Service slow, serving sizes miserably small. Cheap ingredients. Food either burnt or undercooked. Toilets filthy. Sadly has gone downhill badly recently. Homestead and gardens still worth a visit but do yourself a favour and eat elsewhere.
I visited with an 8 year old boy who loves a ghost story. Jim, the tour guide, was fantastic, tweaking the tour to incorporate several ghostly themed tales and keep the young fellas (usually wandering) attention for the full 30minute tour. Kindness and consideration are wonderful things. Thank you
Clearly the old "squire's" property, preserved and presented for the modern public. Fabulous gardens, homestead and buildings, farm sheds and implements.
Good interpretive signs.
Easy parking, access for prams and wheelchairs (watch if muddy).
Great for kids, families, couples, groups, or the fossils.
Homestead is currently closed. Kitchen garden looks lovey and the cafe had the fir on, offered warm sangria and food was lovey hearty fare as usual.
Lovely grounds.
Only 3 stars because the home was closed for renovations with no notification on the website to indicate. Out buildings were open and tours of the grounds still running however after a 3.5 hour drive from Sydney it was incredibly disappointing not to have any warning that the museum would be closed.
Besutiful gardens, cafe and homestead. Great views on mountains and river. Very well preserved homestead and other buildings.
The homestead and cafe experience exceeded our expectations. Wonderful piece of colonial history, beautiful gardens.
We had lunch at the cafe, then a tour of the house. It's lovely to see some of Canberra's history
Lovely weather to be in the country enjoying great views and good food and sharing wi t h family
Beautiful place beautiful landscape amazing flowers,
Anything old and historic I really enjoy going to see!
The road heading in is rutted out but well worth the drive if it's your cuppa tea.
It was very interesting to see how people lived back then. You have to give them a lot of credit, It would be very hard to live that way.
We had a really interesting visit to Lanyon House and it was made even better by having Neridah as our guide for the house and the gardens.
It was a pleasant drive from Canberra and we had a delicious lunch in the cafe.
It was a really good day out.
A piece of settler history just on the edge of Canberra. Interesting house, beautiful gardens. You can get down closer to the river now, which is a nice improvement, sets the site in better context. Note it is run by the ACT government so opening hours etc can be a bit odd.
Tim the Yowie man's tour is fun and entertaining and full of local history, even if you don't see any ghosts he makes it an enjoyable time!
Beautiful place but the chef was so rude to the waitresses who were trying their hardest. It made it so you didn’t want to enjoy the food.
Great place & so interesting but please can the owners get a new chef. Thanks
Must see attraction when visiting Canberra. Complete your visit by having a drink or two at the Cafe and enjoy the view of the mountains and the nearby river!
A national heritage rich in local history with homestead and outbuildings kept in great condition. The farm itself is still actively raising cattle livestock. Even had US President Johnson visit there and plant trees.
Our daughter had her wedding there, the atmosphere was relaxing, the food was great and the staff were fantastic.
Highly recommended looking at Lanyon Homestead as a venue.
Lovely spot but wayfinding is a bit difficult if you don't know the space and it is a reasonable walk from the carpark. The Barraks cafe is not clearly marked and we had to ask a couple of people where it was as it is tucked away well into the site.
