Black Mountain Nature Reserve reviews
38Not much to see or do with Black Mountain Tower closed. Most of the ground level lookouts are now obscured by trees. Without being able to go up into the observation deck of the tower you are far better off going up one of the other hills surrounding Canberra for a much better view.
Even though the Tower is closed at the moment, great views can be found from various parts of the carpark.
Great view of Canberra from the Telstra Tower. Worth a visit for sure. There are viewing decks indoors and also outdoors to suit everyone.
Beautiful nature reserve. Ideal for walking, hiking, trekking, and cycling. Has Telstra Tower as well which is a tourist attraction.
Great place, lovely staff, free entry to my disabled wife because of stair only access to some part
Challenging hiking track, although it's only 900 m to the summit. It has quite steep path, so don't forget to bring your water.
The nature reserve is full of lush greenery. The area by the water of Lake Burley Griffin beholds splendid views of Canberra, surrounding hills and the magnificent Brindabella Ranges. There are many great spots to take photos of and there are convenient places nearby to relax at and enjoy, especially businesses and the Botanical Gardens that have signs and succinct descriptions of the native wildlife in the ACT.
Such an accessible and effective escape, but its seen better days following much foliage stripping in the January 2020 hail storm- there, this review is now squarely dated!
Cotter dam is my one of the favorite place in Canberra, this time as it was summer, and trees are not as green no flow of water but instead of all absent of beauty I love the peace of the park
The lookout is pretty spectacular, but the trees get taller and are blocking out the view.
The road up is narrow and winding and was a good challenge for the learner driving at the time.
Did you know that the Black Mountain area has more orchid diversity than the entire British Isles? It's a great patch of bush with a variety of walking and cycling trails. At the top you've got the Telstra tower for a great view of central canberra and on the slopes you've got the botanic gardens (which has a day spa and a cafe as if the lovely native plants weren't enough). Did I mention it's centrally located and iconic? !
Great views of Canberra city from the top of Telstra Tower. You can see the whole city. There is a Cafe inside the tower that serves coffee and snacks. There is an entry fee to the tower.
Telstra Tower offers expansive view overlooking the Canberra region. Worth the entry fee of $16 for family.
Exciting. Specially the Telstra tower. You can see the whole Canberra from here. $7/50 entrance fee for the adults. That's much worth going there
Starting from substation hiking is quite steep. Worth the effort cause hike gets easier. Around summit is excellent as well.
It is a good trail and family bonding time. 950 m up to the top, sometimes a bit testing in a fast pace.
Great place to start a visit to canberra as it gives you an excellent overview of the city and surrounds
From the Telstra Tower, the Black Mountain Nature Reserve looks like a great place to explore and discover.
Glad there's at least a coffee shop here. The views don't change just because the restaurant closed.
