Akiba reviews
83Not really a hidden secret as it was pumping, but cracking good food at a price that couldn't be matched in Melbourne or Sydney. If in the capitol, go!
Really enjoyed everything, duck dumplings were the best. Chocolate vodka was also a nice suprise. Great place to go as a group and do share plates.
Our lunch was delightful. The service is exceptional. Thank you to Jess and her team. The food is next level. The miso eggplant was the best version of eggplant I've eaten. I think the reviews do the talking. Thank you for a exceptional lunch before we made our way back to Perth. We will visit again next time we are in town. Thank you once again.
Really wonderful meal. We had the tasting menu with one member of our party having a shrimp allergy. The restaurant was very accommodating and the food and drinks were delicious.
Food slaps here. Ordered the Feed Me! Option and I left with a very full tum. Particular highlight was the pulled beef bun and the king fish. Personally not a huge fan of the fried rice but lots of people enjoyed it.
We went in early and it didn’t take long to get busy, overall good vibes and service.
My friend and I had the feed me menu, a bottle of Tasmanian Pinot noir and a side of Liam’s phenomenal service. Five stars, I’ll absolutely be back. Highlights were of course the kingfish sashimi and miso eggplant
OMG - the food is unbelievable.
Get the "Feed Me" platter to share
Actually, I don't have words to describe how good this place is
Prefessional customer service too - love it!
Dinner was absolutely lovely, Ariadne was great and took care of us all night, Jesse from the bar was highly knowledgeable and skilled. Will definitely be back
The best Japanese I had in Canberra.
Cool place and the food is absolutely delicious. I had the duck dumplings, wagyu and the smoked potatoes
Got takeaway during lockdown. Food was tasty as always but all items were cold and dry, not sure if I believe it was made to order as they said it is.
Was an overall great experience. Amazing customer service from Mia and the rest of the staff, super friendly and made us feel welcome. Their knowledge of the food on the menu was also superb, and the food was some of the best I've had in a long time. Definitely will be back
Overall the food was extremely salty.
We ordered the Feed Me menu. The dumplings did not taste good, buns were extremely mediocre. Somehow the fried rice, vegetables, and even the eggplant dish were way too saucy and salty. Oyster pancakes were also mushy.
If you're Asian and used to authentic Asian food, you probably would not like this place. Don't recommend, I'm surprised that it has such high ratings.
Akiba is always a good choice for a meal out, and tonight was no exception. The staff managed to squeeze us in with some excellent table juggling, the food was prompt and delicious, and our server, Mia, was personable and informative.
There's not really any bad dishes, but if you'd like some surprising dishes, the miso eggplant is amazing, the ceviche is sweet, salty, and tangy, and the bao are bloody delicious. The sake jelly drinks are also worth a go - plum is my favourite.
We went for a bday lunch. Got the feed me option. Absolutely amazing food. So fresh and delicious!
Lindon our server was so good! He was friendly and super helpful even if it was his bday too!
10/10 for food 20/10 for service!
Had a fantastic meal, the taste me menu was awesome!
Mia looked after us, and we had a great night. Thanks Mia, great work!
I've always liked Akiba for the simplicity of the menu which belies their creativity in yumminess. Their bun dishes are pretty good but my favey is the fried chicken dish, awesome flavour, taste and portion size for a hungry person. The cocktails are nice but a bit pricey. Do you do happy hours Akiba? Oh yeah, the staff is brilliant and magicians in accommodating you on a busy night.
Had yet another great experience at Akiba. Just wanted to pop in for a quick drink but still was greeted with warmest service and attention! Were served by a lovely young waitress, I think her name was Lucy from what I recall, and felt incredibly welcome and attended to as usual. Will be back again soon!
Very disappointed with the service here. When I booked online, I requested for the birthday cake I provided to be brought out at the end of my surprise dinner I had planned with my boyfriend, and called the restaurant to confirm this was possible once I had booked. I then confirmed this for a third time with the manager when I dropped off the cake before dinner and ensured they knew it was a surprise for his birthday. Once we arrived the service and food was good, however when the waiter informed us we had to leave soon because of the next booking, I had to discretely ask for the cake to be brought out. When it was brought out 10 minutes later we were told we had to leave because of the next booking, so we did not get the birthday surprise I had organised.
Excellent food, and good value for money as well. They serve contemporary Japanese fusion. I would certainly recommend this restaurant to anyone. Yours truly @fooderarri
Great venue, food and drinks on point and good crowd! Definitely recommend it.
Would give 5 starts, however:
- When I walked in, I saw some plates being carried around and they were fairly small so I thought to order quite a few things for my wife and I. Turned out that it was WAY too much food for 2. Would be nice if the server could be a bit more caring to guide/advise us in relation to quantity and dish sizes. I even asked “enough for two, yeah? ” and got a meh reply “you will be Ok”
- Not only I ended up ordering too much food, the server came to ask how I was going with it at some point because my seating time was coming to an end? Really? Plenty of empty spots around me in the venue and you come to say that? Not good…
Regardless, these were small inconveniences that didn’t compromise the overall experience!
